Silkie Cross Breeds

It is soo adorable
Thank you! I think so, too!!! None of the babies made it unfortunately. I tried desperately to save the one pictured, Pearl the Penguin, but she finally gave up yesterday morning. I don't think I'll be trying that mix again. =( I was so looking forward to seeing what they would look like all grown up. They were especially lovey chicks, too. Even with a chick friend to comfort her, she just wanted to be held and talked to. So, yeah, my heart broke pretty hard yesterday.

Ok, BYC never ceases to amaze me. I have 2 white silkie Roos, 2 white silkie hens, 7 buff orpingtons, 3 brown, and 3 white leghorns, one gold sexlink, and 2 im not really sure. I think one is a gold sexlink, the other is white with light brown spots on her upper half.

Now they all live together and get along fairly well. Well . . . . the boys do their thing. and All the eggs we have are fertile, so far as I can tell. and I've been asking myself this same question . . . what if we just throw a batch into an incubator and follow them through instead of tossing em in the fridge? would they be cute . . not so cute, would they even hatch at all?

some of the birds on this thread are beautiful. There is no harm in trying. I cant wait for the next ~21 days :D
stoopid birds. I just cant get enough of em :D

Man, im getting so excited. we put 4 eggs in our incubator. as of now we are ~7 days from hatch time and Im dying to see what comes out. We only got 2 this far growing. one didnt start at all. and the other was clear after the last candling. so we have 2. 1 is from either a brown or white leghorn hen and a white silkie roo, the other is a brown egg. so could be from one of our orpingtons, a gold sexlink or we got another that looks like a sexlink, but she was part of an assortment so im really not sure what she is.

I'm just dying to see these little peepers break free :D

I'll post pictures as soon as they hatch. Last candling they were progressing nicely. I expect monday or so for them to start hatching.
It's our first try so we're all super excited.

I have 5 houdan x silkie eggs in the incubator right now! I'll post pics in 2 1/2 weeks. This is my second attempt with this cross. First time didn't go so well but I used a broody hen then. All five are fertilized and progressing nicely.

If anyone is interested and has cochins and silkies; my life's dream is to cross two silkie-cochin crosses and see what happens! I have a silkie-cochin and she is my little love. But I can't do this project myself because I don't have a cochin and can't have any more chickens, but would anyone be willing to help me out? I think this would be the coolest thing ever!

YAY! The first one hatched. White Silkie roo, Im not sure which hen laid the egg.
could be a silkie, orpington, or gold sexlink. skin is pink, but our silkies were a couple weeks
when we got em and I dont remember if they had black skin when we got em or not.

The white egg is still in the bator its still moving around in there so we're all still dying to see what comes out.
same roo, but its either a white or brown leghorn hen. Im really excited to see what little creature is growing
in there. Needless to say today was an EXTRA exciting day. Heres to hoping the little fella or lady makes it.
so far its trying to eat and drink already.

Dried off and heading to the brooder.

This one you can see it inhereted daddy's extra toe . . . well mostly :D
