BYC members in Massachusetts?

Anybody in the area south of Boston got fertile eggs they could sell and I could pick up?

I am most interested in Australorps, Barred Rock and/or Dominiques. I can be flexible but I really think 4 eggs will cover my needs.

Any ideas, folks? thanks in advance.
I can't personally help you, but I'm following any responses you might get -- considering some Dominique pullets come springtime!

If you find any great resources in the area please update. Good luck!

Hello Massachusetts folk. As you can tell by the post count, I'm new to this forum, and to keeping chicken and I'm starting off with a bit of a conundrum. One chick out of our group of twelve has turned out to be a rooster and in the city of Brockton this is problematic so I'm looking for a new home for him.

The bird in question is a Buff Brahma that was hatched around the end of July, so he's close to five months old. He's recently begun crowing in the mornings, but he's so far shown to have a really mild temperament. He tries to avoid being picked up, but once he is he tends to relax and just talk quietly. Has shown no signs of aggression thus fur against me, my wife, or kids.

If you think you'd have a spot for him I would have no problem at all with bringing him to you at your convenience.

What is that big glowing ball thing in the sky? Could it be... have we really been graced with... SUNSHINE?! In FEBRUARY? Craziness. We should probably brace for snow, now that I've said that.

My coop was delivered recently and is sitting in the garage, waiting for assembly. A new custom run is scheduled for delivery in a few months (need to clear out the area and get a nice protective hardware cloth foundation in there), and I'll be picking up my 5 Dominique pullets from RI the first week of April.

Anyone have a good source for those lockable metal trash cans for storing food? Would the hardware stores have them?

Home Depot has them, in different sizes. That's where I got mine.

I can't wait for snow! (if we get any) We've had no real snow here in the Boston area for two years now. My snow blower broke 3 years ago and I haven't bothered to replace it - just haven't needed one. This winter so far it has only snowed once, barely enough for the kids to sled on, and you can still see the grass behind the sled after the first go down the hill. Pathetic muddy winters.

Found 'em at my local Ace Hardware -- running low on stock, but a better price than HD (who had more in stock).

We got a snowblower last year from friends, tuned it up... and there it sits, waiting for a winter like we used to have "back in the day". My sump pumps aren't thrilled to work this hard in winter -- I miss snow!

Hello,

I know it's a long shot, but does anyone in the area raise and sell Basque hens (Euskal Oiloa Marraduna)? They are completely sold out online (Greenfire, Meyer, etc.).

Thanks,
Scott
