BYC members in Massachusetts? - Page 9

I am new..  we are planning to build a coop and get chicks, probably in the spring..

Just in the research stage at the moment.

I am in Central MA
Went to Klem's yesterday.  They said they get chicks every spring.  Anyone buy chicks there?  What varieties do they get?
I'd order from one of the hatcheries, but their minimums are so high, and we can't get more than 6..

Hi everybody!  I am chicken obsessed in Western Mass.  A lot of people I know have been getting chickens but I don't think they are on the forum yet.  I'll have to start spreading the word!  This site has been so amazingly helpful to me!

I don't know about on the website, but they have two in front of the store, or at least they did when I was there 3 weeks ago.  They are nice but a little expensive though.

I got my chicks from Klems. I got RIR. But they also get Barred Rocks, meat birds and bantamas. Along with turkey's and ducks.

I was hoping for some easter eggers/americanas, and australorpe, and maybe orpingtons, or red stars...  don't want bantams.  would rather have standards.  do you think I could get any of those at Klems, or locally?     Or should I just plan to order from mypetchicken and pay an arm and a leg for shipping?

Are there ever any Mass or RI swaps? I haven't been able to find any

I went to a swap in NH today.  There was a bin full of mixed pullet chicks, but wer didn't get any.
We are kind of interested in some specific breeds.

Anyone interested in splitting an order?  I'm in Central MA, just outside of Worcester.
Shipping is pretty exhorbitant if you only order a few.  We want 6.
