Real nice set up. Your chickens should be very comfortable. One word of advise. If you listen to this bunch much, you will need to make it bigger. wink.png

Katie how many chickens do you plan on having to start with? Did I miss that part somewhere? If so sorry!

Here is a pic of a regular rhode island red next to a heritage rhode island red. When I realized how full our incubators are becoming DD & I went down & took the RIR hens out of the breeding pen & let them return to the main coop. I am certain they will be WAY excited to be out foraging tomorrow. I have been feeling so guilty not letting them out to play. But I am happy I have been able to hatch a few dz heritage RIR & should have more hatching over the next 3 wks.

Katie, awesome pen! What kind of wire is that? Is it hardware cloth? I just love how you used twigs on the ramp-great idea!
I'm looking for some 1" x 1" cage wire in 48" tall. Does anyone know if there's such a thing? A wire company or something? Lowes, Home Depot, Tractor Supply, etc only have the cage wire in 30" tall.

Welcome to the Okie Thread welcome-byc.gif glad you found us, Nice set up you have there, I've had Buff Orpingtons for a few years now they are some of my favorite birds very docile and regal, I have a bunch of chicks I just hatched out this last weekend and a bunch more in the incubator along with two of the hens setting on some, I'll be taking about 60 chicks to the Newcastle sale on Saturday.

CityClucks visit today was an inspiration to my "girls"; this afternoon I collected their first egg.  A wee bit of an egg but enough to mathematically verify that I have at least one authentic chicken.

Your visit has me more excited about POOPS and thanks again for the lovely eggs.  Where did you get the pink egg carton?

KatieCov:  Like your use of the space under your coop for storage.  If and when I get a proper coop I hope to have a bit of storage in it to get the feed and bedding storage out of the garage.

So yesterday I was talking about training dogs and I always brag about how well behaved my dogs were around the critters, Princess is good with the goats also and had never been around one her whole life she just tries to sniff them as if they were another dog and yesterday in doing that she got shanked by the nanny goat there was a moment there I wasn't sure what she was going to do but she just looked at me like I was supposed to give the okay to put her on the menu, Well, just shortly after that I found where my Pekin hen has started setting on a nest full of eggs the next thing I know Princess had run her from the nest stole one of the eggs had it broke open (just on the top) and was lapping the contents out like a pro I'm thinking this might be why I haven't gotten as many eggs as I though I should have so far from the ducks and the geese. I scolded her and will just have to wait and see if she keeps trying to suck eggs, I did place a cover over the nest so she can't get to it again.

Cochin X in the middle is going to be a roo based on his stance.  The one in front is a SLW x
