OK I bought two ducklings yesterday. Is there any reason that I can't just house them in the same yard with my chickens? I had a duck for years before and she just had a doghouse and a chicken wire yard, but I didn't have chickens then. They're still in the house right now.

RetArmyWife-not sure on the duck question. Ducks are so flippin' adorable! And so messy or I'd have some.

Mitzi you might as well hold onto that mini you never know when you will find an extra 10 eggs that need to be set ASAP!

I know.

But I thought I'd make a valiant effort at pretending to sell it hide.gif

They say You can tell by how many rows of pin feathers there are on the wings. I seen this on a thread with pictures. I don't know how accurate that is. But we did it on our hatched chicks and i guess we Will see when they are older. I believe its one row its a boy then two rows a pullets.

I noticed that wierd sound. I didn't know who was making it. It's cute until its 3 am. LOL but the light Brahma is constantly fighting with the dark one. Worries me. Idk if that's normal.

The ducks can go in with the chickens without any issues while they are young. However, once they reach breeding age they will try to mate with the chickens and that would kill them. Our duck actually drowned one of our chickens by pulling it into his pond with him (before we knew any better). Hope that helps!

Barred rocks, red sex link, silver wyandotte, white leghorns, mottled cochin banty, silkie, blue swedish and khaki campbell ducks, meat rabbits, white holland turkeys, turtles, cats, and as much garden space as one can cram into a small urban yard half given over to the chickens

Hope everyone survived ut west with all that horrible hail and tornadoes!

Foggy morning here and we sorted and moved more cows...this time to pastures in Prague.  Whew!

I have to mow the garden. today or will need the brush mower.  Hubby mowed the yard yesterday while I weeded a few flower beds.
