We are already running the swamp cooler to keep the hen house under 85 degrees.

You may have to go out and rinse them off...might save a few if they got hit by the spray.

Our guy that sprays the lawn for weeds no longer sprays in the garden becausehis helper took out my tomatoes, peppers and peas one year a while back.

Cowboy your tomatoes will certainly be survival of the fittest!

My girls are panting when they are out in the sun too.  April and already panting that can't be good.  After all the work it can't get to hot until my summer run is ready!  he.gif  And time is the only thing I have to wait on for that to happen, it's all set and ready to grow (pun intended)

I know my Yeta isn't the prettiest chicken, but she sure is the smartest in my flock, she is a one of a kind.  I was out working around the yard and garden and we have an infestation of small black flying bugs, not sure what they are except annoying, they fly w/ their back end turned up like a "U".  Anyway they are annoying both man and beast, all 17 other chickens either are doing their best to ignore them or run from them, what does Yeta do?????  Why eat them of course, nabbing them straight out of the air, she reminds me of the metally challenged people you see in the streets talking to people that only they can see swatting at stuff that you can't see.  (I hope noone thinks that is mean, it wasn't meant to be, just a very descriptive visual aid to what she looks like)  The other chickens just look at her like she's crazy even watching her do it they haven't been able to figure it out.

The last of my last minute preparations are complete for V.H. day tomorrow.  jumpy.gif

Does anyone know what color this Guinea is? It's been hanging out with my 2 Guineas for a few wks (and it's not mine).

It needs a home, any takers?

I vote the mystery guinea is royal purple. If the wings don't had a purple sheen in the sun then it is bronze. But looks like a see a purple sheen on my phone. If no one close by wants him he can join our flock. I say he since his helmet looks so big. For me the helmet is more reliable than the waddles.

Yea, the wings have purple on them. But the front primary feathers are spotted, I didn't know if they could be like that if they were purple.

Are you going to Blanchard Sat? I'll deworm him with Valbazen and Frontline him for you if you want him and are going to be at Blanchard.

Oh-he doesn't have lice or mites (I meant just as a preventative).

We will be @ Blanchard, so that will great. I can't believe you caught him after all you went through to catch your own guineas!
With my purples the first time I saw the dots on the underside was after I took a pic of one on the roost. I never noticed it until after I saw the picture.

I vote royal too, looks like the ones I got a while back from another BYCer. If I didn't have 18 keets in the brooder, I'd take him, but I hopefully will be covered in all the guineas my yard can handle in a month or so.

That duck that pipped this morning hasn't done anything else today... grrr.... HATCH **** YOU HATCH!

Cowboy -- sorry about the chemicals :( I'm lucky enough the people next to our garden let the back side of their acreage grow at will. If only people weren't so obsessed with having the "right" grass

wish I had more time than to read the last two pages. Busy week this week!

Oh good, I'll bring him Saturday then! I got lucky catching this one, mine were too smart for me. I've got a cage I got at the January Newcastle auction I was going to throw away. I'll bring him in that and you can just keep the cage.

OceansEve, I do NOT envy you with 18 Guineas lol

lol Well the 5 I have aren't going to be able to detick our entire 5 acres. We're free ranging so I'm sure I'll lose some. I like the guineas. They're fun to watch. If I end up with plenty I can always sell the extras. I think the guineas are probably my second favorite next to the turkeys, hope that doesn't change as my turkeys get older, but then again if it does I can always eat them lol.png I don't take attitude very well.

Robyn - that's a pretty rooster.
