Sooner - I like the feeder on the side.  Mine sits on top of the hive.  Are the cattle panels for keeping livestock away from the hive?  They aren't going to be much use if they're for keeping the bees in.  That's my attempt at morning humor.  I think I need a second cup of coffee before I type anything else.

POCO you made me smile so your humor is doing fine!  Yes we have horses & the neighbor has cattle (that sometimes end up on our side) so it is to make sure it doesn't get knocked over & they can't get up too close.

Funny thing after I got the bee's in one of our cats were sitting right next to the brick just hanging out, every once in a while she would swat at a bee but never got stung....I wish I would of got that picture before I called her out.

I had an idea while I was sitting watching the new chicks yesterday.  I wondered if a person planned to have 4ish week old chicks by the beginning of June if they could be let loose in the squash.  My thinking is they would be down at plant base level to see the squash bugs well and still be small enough not to do to much damage to the squash plants themselves.  I think I am going to plan for that next year.

Thanks for the reminder I saw a thing at the OSU extension when I was there dropping off my samples and I totally forgot about it. Definitely putting that on my calender

Oceans, I would say that if you plan to do it for sure, you can start getting the smaller items (veil, hat, gloves, hive tool, brush, smoker) one at a time or two at a time.  There is a store in midwest city.  I haven't been there yet as they are only open during the week.  I hope to get by there next month & pick up a coulpe of things.......I want a second hive.

So cute! I want NN's but hubby says he'll eat em if i get em. I know he wouldn't really, but Think I'm at my max chickens (and ducks) until I can sell this house and move. Besides I'm saving room for any birds I may acquire at poops.

If you are going to put chicks and ducklings in the same brooder, my recommendation is to have all of them on wire rather than in a flat bottom tub.  The ducks like to splash the water out of the waterers and the chicks get wet and too cold when there isn't a way for the water to drain off the living area.  As for putting them in the same yard, I found it was very difficult to keep the waterer clean when ducks had access to it.  They dip their beak to clean off their nostrils and seem to leave mud behind in the waterer.

Yes I have noticed that. I have to change the paper and water at least a few times a day. They aren't brooding together, but I kind of wanted to put them in the same yard. I decided it will be just as easy to build a chicken wire T- post yard for them. I have a doghouse that my last duck lived in. I think they'll be fine in there, if I put a top on it to keep predators out. How long do ducks usually brood?
