Kassrandra's photos of her PVC feeder inspired me to try one.  I used 2" pipe and a 45degree "Y" for the "trough".  The pipe is only 24" high but one fill up has lasted the girls (two Barred Rocks) a week without any visible waste.  I like it for a few birds, will rig up something different when I get more.

Today I stained the frame that will become the run for the new coop.  While theoretically move able it definitely isn't a tractor but it will give the girls a place to return to after running loose in the yard.

My more mature pullet started laying on April 5th and has laid an egg every day except Saturdays,  Looks like I have an "observant" hen, such a deal.

The second one has really matured in the past week, bulked up, comb growing and getting redder and she is starting to talk like a hen.  Had chickens for years on the farm but never paid real close attention to them.  They really are fun to watch.

All your talk about hatching and photos of chicks is getting me interested in incubating, dumb thing to do when I'm not supposed to have more than seven chickens.

Good night everyone.

Just checked the girls...Minerva Minorca has one chick completely out and dry and several pipped.

Delilah Cochin has four zipping and several more pipped.

Body temperature from the hens must affect the incubating time...I set the eggs with Delilah in the morning on March 28 and gave Minerva her eggs that evening....but Minerva's started pipping first.
