Kassaundra's video makes me think of ostrich racing.  Made me recall "Swiss Family Robinson" a movie that showed an ostrich racing a donkey, both with jockeys.  That was over a half century ago so many of you might not remember it.  Well worth seeing if its available.

Good night everyone.

If you can.....could you do that whole Pullet Dust thing again? You hatched out 95% pullets for me the 2 hatches you did for me.

Not a problem Mitzi, just call me when you get them.

Carl...which one is it?  I forgot to write it down.....

Young rooster.....older hens = more cockrells

Older rooster...younger hens = more pullets

Don't make sense to me why this works so well but it does..

The other thing that really helps is very stable incubators, the cockrell embryo's are a bit hardier and will survive more temp flunctuations than the pullet embryos.

I have been on a pullet roll this year with the exception of 1 pen which has been primarily cockrells. But thats Ok, I have several matings that are focused on pullets this year.

Everyone have a good day.. I'm in for another long day may not check in for a day or two.

Kassaundra,

They make a product, called Over the Top that, although pretty slow acting, will kill the grass out of your beds without you having to pull it.  I think they actually changed the name last year to Ornamec, now that I think about it.  I use it wherever there is too much grass to pull easily or where there is unwanted bermuda, 'cause you can't ever pull that stuff out and get all of it!

Okay, gotta share and hopefully pick some brains at the same time.  My first sizzle chicks are hatching out as we very speak-- woohoo!!!!  I'm anxious to see how these turn out.  I have two pens, one with a frizzle roo and silky hens and the other with a silkie roo and frizzle hens.  It will be curious to see what if any different results they produce.

But, for the brain picking---   why are the sizzles hatching out earlier than the other eggs in the incubator?  Do they develop faster being smaller?  Today is actually the "calendar" hatch date, but so far none of the bigger eggs are pipping, while I have about 10 little sizzles already out, and some of them are already dry and fluffed.  Just curious.

I used to love to mow at our last house, but the grass got too long and now we are fighting it, have to mow it twice over to get it reasonable. We just got to get on top of it again and stay that way!

With hatching each bird is different IMO. Every wk for 2 months I have been hatching EE & RIR. Each wk the EE is the first to pip & usually I have an EE out at least 12 hours before the RIR. But if you look at the birds, my EE like to fly roost high & are not quiet as tame. Even as chicks the EE run around the brooder all day while the RIR eat & sleep. Just my experience, others may disagree.
