They are good chickens for egg laying and for being food wise. But when holding them you'll have to be careful, my chickie pecks me in the eye and the mouth (she even ate food out of my mouth...

Nice cool morning for coffee on the deck with hubby watching the young heifers graze. Leisurely walk around the yard and garden with the dogs, coffee in hand. Life is good!
Picked these four heads of broccolli this morning. Best we have ever grown. And a picture of the canned poke from yesterday. Still need to wipe down the jars, remove the rims and label the jar tops.
Got to go feed and water now.
We have soccor games with granddaughter today too. A relaxing day after yesterday's long hours.
Beautiful broccoli! When did you plant it to have it be so nice and large at this time of year?
After reading all the steps to canning poke salad - I am tired just thinking about it. I have great admiration for those who actually get things canned - in contrast to myself who intends to get some things canned.
Broccoli has been planted in three stages . This first went in about the end of February when I planted the peas, lettuce and carrots. Then again March 10 when I planted the potatoes and the last plants went in March 20 when I set out a few of the tomatoes and peppers. That last group was a little root bound in the pots so they may not do well.
We were on our feet for about 5 hours cleaning the poke and getting the pots going. I have several big kettles we had going at the same time to get it all cooked and processed. Started picking about 9:30 am in the morning and the bulk of the work was finished by 7:30 pm. The pressure canner went of at 8:30 pm and turned the water bath canner off at 10:30 pm. It was a job we will do again this week but not as big a batch. Glad poke is an early plant. My MIL loves it and has fed poke and eggs to her family for over 70 years.

Barnswallow's package forthe POOPS raffle arrived today and per her instructions we aren't going to open it. I can tell you it's supposed to be a basket of egg and chicken themed items for the kitchen. From what she has said about it, there will be some heavy and fragile items in the box so whomever wins will have fun opening the box!
Granddaughter has mono! and won't be able to participate in her soccor or other sports for 6 - 8 weeks until her immune system gets stronger. We knew she was having a little trouble breathing and our Daughter took her back to the doctor at the clinic this morning. They did blood work and determined what was wrong. At 13, she is devestated about not being able to play soccor or participate in Pom. No one can figure out where she was exposed....we know there is no boyfriend.

I was one of those strange little kids that really liked canned spinach. Mom would serve it with vinegar and pieces of bacon. Just yesterday I was thinking about making a spinach pie for POOPS. People I have served them to generally say they like them, but then again most people tend to be nice. Needn't worry, I am going to do a peach pie instead.

Well.....the good news is if you took spinach pie you'd have plenty left to take home at the end of the day :-)
I'm just teasing. One of my favorites things in the world is liver and onions fried together. For some reason it always makes me think of watching The Flintstones on TV when I was a kid. I guess my mom was making it once when I was watching Flintstones and that's what has always stuck in my head. I think I need to have that tonight as a matter of fact.....
Maybe I watched too many cartoons as a kid and that's what's wrong with me?

I'll let that one slide since I just had one of my Silver Laced Cochin babies hatch!! I'm using the 10 egg Brinsea as a hatcher since there's only 2 eggs. He got right with it so fast. Wow, what a difference temp/humidity gauges and a good incubator make!!! This little one is bigger than the 12 day old Bantam Cochins :-) #2 is chipping right away at its shell, too.

If anyone is coming to POOPS from the Tulsa area, You can take the turnpike to the Wellston exit and then
take either 102 or 177 south to Hwy 62 and go West on 62 through Harrah and into Choctaw.
Or you can go South to Henryetta to get on I-40 and go West to the Choctaw Road exit.
