Like Lynn said. Eat it when it is small and tender if it gets big you can't eat it.

I have also been told that you have to cook it a certain way because parts of it are poison.

We used to eat Poke every spring when I lived back home.

Lynn bring me a little poke and lambs quarter if you would. Ate lots of poke thru the years, but never tried lambs quarter.

Far out!  A question I can answer.  POL = point of lay,  a pullet about ready to enter the work a day world.

I have a question for NanaKat or anyone else who knows:  When I was growing up we picked a plant we called Lamb's Quarter and ate it like spinach - is that the same thing as Poke?  Or are they different?  I see Lamb's Quarter in this part of Oklahoma, but I don't recognize what Poke is.

I haven't read further to see if anyone else answers this, but no lambs quarters and poke are not the same thing at all, but both are edible plants that grow wild in OK.  Poke has a longer thinner leaf and glossy like, lambs quarters has a fatter leaf (like maple tree shape) not glossy at all. LQ is a reletive of quinoa, and the leaves don't need any special tx to eat (boiling several times etc...)

These are not my pics

Hey, guys. I haven't posted in forever. Lots of family stuff going on. Anyway, I see POOPS is this weekend. I am definitely going to be there with my kids and one of their friends. Anyone know if there will be other kids around? Will they run around and play games and have fun? Also, who do I contact to find out what to bring as far as food? Thanks!
