Feels like I'm going around in circles LOL I'm trying to get things done and ready for POOPS so I'm NOT cramming at the last minute I'll have myself there that much is for sure and certain, I'm sure I'll be remembering everything I forgot about the time I pull into a parking space :-)

Went around the far side of my pond and checked the nest areas I made over there and they had been used then something came and ate all the eggs that had been laid, guess it's time to reset the live traps I thought I had gained some control over what was lurking about but it's a never ending task

yuckyuck.gif One never knows huh? LOL I read that it has been discovered that all blue eyed people came from the same ancestor and are therefore all related. In retrospect, I'm now glad my last marriage didn't work out .... barnie.gif

DD picked 20 chicks out of the brooder she is bringing & here are a few of the keets.  I am hearing chirping in the hatcher, so fingers crossed there are more to come.

My broodie's lone egg disappeared. It was there yesterday.  All chickie-birds are intact and calm, and there's no visible break-in in the run or coops so I'm guessing a snake got it.  She's in the coop where a copperhead was hiding and dropped onto DH's back last year or so.  Time for the mothball artillery to line the entire run area, including the roof.  She is MAD!!  And still sitting on her nest.  Will she stay broody for a few more days?

Confession time... (we need a smilie that gets embarrassed, lol)  I actually asked DH what he thought about getting some hatching eggs at POOPS and sticking them under her.  Hi, my name is Carla... and I've become addicted to chickens....

It was one of my baby Bantam Faverolles, thank you so much for asking-did anyone tell you that you're one of the nicest people??

She's still the same. I sort of wish I'd have pushed him to empty her crop out but I'm sure it would've just done the same thing again today. I think it probably is pendulous crop after reading about it. Maybe she won't have a severe case of it and I won't have to put her down. I'd seriously do surgery on her and will look into that at the vet school here. For parrots they do surgery, I don't see why they can't for a chicken. All our pets have a price tag on their lives, I'd do quite a bit for these little Faverolles.

so what exactly did he say about her crop? sluggish? and i agree, who cares what the species- a pet is a pet...

my little crossbeak is hanging on, put him under a heatlamp, been giving him a broth of eggyolk, electrolytes, crumbles, and vitamins, by this afternoon he was wanting back with the family, and racing for treats...

He said it wasn't impacted and it wasn't infected or yeast (ie sour crop). He looked at it under the microscope and did some stain. He said he looked it up in his book and it could be pendulous crop but otherwise he was at a loss. Gotta love honesty anyway. He said feed her more fiber (alfalfa) and make sure they had extra grit. He said a good way to get them to eat alfalfa is sprinkle some scratch on it. I'm supposed to bring her back next Wednesday. I can ask for a referral to the vet hospital in Stillwater, that's probably what I'll do. Because like I said-they fix it in parrots. I think it's the whole idea that chickens aren't worth as much money to most people.

Do you think the crossbeak is going to be ok? The crossbeak Brahma I had didn't have any problems at all eating, yours must be worse or shaped different.
