These 4 Bantam Cochins I got from Newcastle are a month old now and don't look like they've grown a bit, they've got tiny wing feathers but that's it, they all scream bloody murder if their temp gets below 90. I've tried so many times to lower their temp and they huddle up and scream (literally lol) until I turn it back up. The 1st LF Silver Laced Cochin that hatched was bigger than them when it hatched, they were 3 wks old then. I took that little one out of their brooder where he'd been and put him in with the newly hatched LF Cochins and the Orps because he was too hot in with the Bantams. Those of you who've raised Bantam Cochins or any tiny breed-is this typical? I did lose one of them a week ago, have no idea why.realize they were reading :-)
So glad you Fav. girl is doing better.
I'm sorry you lost the bantam Cochin chick. I meant to talk to you at POOPS but I wasn't thinking very fast that day. Bantam Cochins are small but mine don't seem to mind when I lower the temps. each week. I'll have to take a pic of the chicks I kept from that hatch. They are at 80* and have some feathers started on their backs and are more than double their hatch size. They eat like piggys. I feed the Nutrea chick starter 16% protein.

I feed Stillwater Milling, it's 18% protein. Although I wonder if it perhaps had anything to do with it because I had switched to a batch of Purina starter? They're back to their normal now as of last week. I can sometimes sneak these guys down to 88 but it's not 10 min and they're hollering. I wouldn't even have noticed except I have the digital temp things in brooders now.
