I went to my my first POOPS meeting the 5th and i had a blast every one was so nice. Thanks to every one. I had so much fun.

Also, I bought a 2 month old "cockerel" at Newcastle.  Listed as a cockerel and looked like a cockerel.  Well it has been a few weeks now and the bird has grown but it almost looks like the comb and wattles are smaller.  It is not acting rooish at all and has taken up with the little light brahma babies I got from Mitzie.  Yesterday when I went to check on everyone "Kingston" was sitting on the light brahmas!  They were all tucked up under his wings.  Could Kingston be a Queenston?  I can post pics if it would help.  LOL

I had a Dominique pullet last year that adopted some guinea keets after their foster mama got eaten by a coytote (that happens a lot here, if you've noticed a pattern!). They were eight weeks old  and she was only about 12 weeks old when she took them under her wing, so to speak, and she took care of them forever it seemed like. (She went on to be the kind of chicken who would sit and try to hatch out a rock.) Here she is looking almost like the same size as them. The next year when she hatched out her own chicks, they were still following her around everywhere.

Thought I'd post  few pictures of the offspring of Samson and Delilah  the Lavendar Cochin Roo and his Blue lady.  They are 4/12 hatch.  They need their feet washed.

bfrancis - your peacocks are beautiful! Keep posting pictures like that and you'll find some peafowl addicts here, too. 

 

NanaKat - all of your babies are looking good. 

 

Bill - I can picture those things happening. Where are the video cameras when you need one? gig.gif

 

ladyokie - most of my broodies kick their babies out after about a month, except for one hen who has been letting her foster babies follow her around and sleep under her for going on two months now. She's back to laying eggs again but still mothers the little ones. I guess each hen is different. Most of mine are too impatient to let any chicks slow them down. 

 

BlanchardOK - will keep you and your wife in my prayers. 

 

CathieSue - when I needed someone to finish the coop for me, I called a local lumber company and asked them for referrals for handymen. They gave me several names so I started calling, explaining what I needed. Got estimates and went with my gut on who I felt like would suit my needs. It worked out great for me. You might give that a try.

What's in my sunroom today?

One Dominique cock who's supposed to be in isolation, but is fast. (He's back in the cage now.)

5 two-week-old Dominique chicks who learned to fly out of the small brooder, and so now are in half of the bigger brooder with. . .

Four little babies hatched just this Tuesday. Three Dominiques and one Faverolle. She's either Salmon or Blue-Salmon.  And finally,

Little Miss. She cussed me out real good when I took her out of the crate to put her in the brooder that the Dominiques were in. I switched eggs on her at the same time and she looked them over real good before deciding that "eggs are eggs".

 

And that's what's in my sunroom today! Now I just need to find room for a couple dozen baby keets!

He is an amazing surprise! I went to Ohio in January and bought eight pullets and a cockerel from Mike Stichler. The cockerel and one pullet got eaten by a coyote. Pattern, yes, I know. Well, I got a back up cockerel (two actually, because one, say it with me everyone "GOT EATEN BY A COYOTE". I hate these freaking coyotes. They'll come up right in my yard.) from a friend and have been hatching out everything that's black and white I could get my hands on this spring. Anyway, a friend of mine brought this guy to me this week. He's from the same lines. :)
