Christina, Cathie & Shellie, You don't think all the eggs might've been dead.....? Now I feel even worse. I candled 3 of them and there were no veins left so I tossed them all. I couldn't even bear to crack any open. I did that one time to find out why a chick had quit growing and found out it hadn't. The guilt was overwhelming :-/ What makes it worse is there were 6 Modern eggs in there from my pair here that I was going to give to Jim.

You raised a monster lol!! We've had several bottle calves also. They're darling at 3 days old. When they're 6 months old and busting through 5' chain link, not so much. I'm sold on hot wire here. I've had a dozen or so dogs for 20 yrs and never once had one dig out or go over the fence. Hot wire is a must for dog owners. It's going around the chicken yards if I ever get them finished, too. They keep getting bigger and more elaborate.

I LOVE frogs and toads, too, OkieT.  I baby them around here.

And bubba the calf only tried licking the electric fence a couple of times himself !, he tries to eat everything, so far he has disconnected the landline phone, tore the outside vent off from the dryer, eats all the chick grower he can find, rearranges the hay in the nest boxes, eats the leafs off of the vegetable plants he can reach through the garden fencing, chewed on a hat or two. Just like having a little kid at times, he is not as cute as he wa when we 1st got him, so i am thinking that it will not be that hard to put him in the freezer later. Did get the knuckled foot straightened out mostly though. He stands at the back door and bawls if the door is open, still wants a bottle, or wants to be petted.

A ferret would be a possibility, because I'm sure they can climb, but I don't think a skunk.  Whatever it was had to go over a 6' fence to get into the pen. 

And, I have to tell you, Nana, I told my bullfrogs yesterday that they sure are lucky they live here and not at your place.  I sat under the grape arbor and watched two great big ole daddy bullfrogs just sitting on the bank of our pond island and thought of you.  I won't let anyone kill the ones here because I enjoy listening to them too much. Luck frogs that I like the sound better than the meat at this point in life!

I am relatively new to this site.  I have been lurking for a while and found lots of great information.  The beginning of March, we purchased 7 chicks from At woods (3 black sex link, 2 red sex link, and 2 white rocks)  They were doing well and growing up fast but being new chickens I made a horrible mistake and left them out during the day on Friday.  We were trying to be nice to them and let then free range.  However when we got home from work, we could not find any of them.  I figure it was a fox, I don't know what else would eat that many chickens.  Luckily on Sat morning, I went out to the truck one of the little black ones was hiding behind the wheel.  We looked here several times Friday night so I know she was hiding somewhere. 

I was able to find 6 more 6 week old ones on Craigslist yesterday (2 barred rock, 2 buff orpington, and 2 lace wyandottes).  I had built a chicken tractor but have decided that a real coop will be safer so I plan to build that soon.  We are currently keeping the chickens in an unused horse stall until I can get the coop built.

Does anyone want a Dominique cock? I am thinking of listing him on craigslist for $10 just so nobody will buy him to eat him. I'd give him to someone on here free if they wanted to use him for breeding though. I'm not set up for more than one line at this point in time and he's out of a different line than the one I'm working with. He also beat the crap out of the cock I am using for breeding, so he has to be separated. It's no life for a chicken to be in a tiny little cage. :/ Anyway, reply or PM me if you want a rooster. 

darn it if I had a place for him and girls for him I would.  Wonder if hubby can get two hoop houses, and an a-frame built this week.  Then again he leaves Thursday at noon for Missouri so probably pushing my luck, lol.

TGPerg, thar's a beautiful boy. To my untrained eye he looks like my Cuckoo Marans boys. I tell ya-if those 2 boys hadn't grown up here and weren't tame like puppies I could replace them with a dozen bantams of some breed as much as they eat. I don't care for their color, they eat like horses....yet they're the sweetest kindest tamest boys and my daughter is who raised them so they get to stay.
