For folks attending N.E.O.C.S. on Saturday, here's an overview:

Drop off cages at the east door (the last door on the right), move cages into the dirt floor area, and then go park your vehicle.  Come back and carry cages to your spaces.

6:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. sellers enter barn and set up cages.
8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.  buy, sell, trade, swap eggs and chickens
10:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Center Arena Demonstration/Discussion: Capons
10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Center Arena Demonstration/Discussion: Feeder Insects
11:00 a.m.  Start putting cages in order for the Pay the Seller Poultry Sale that begins at noon.
12:00 p.m.  Pay the Seller Poultry Sale begins in the center arena
2:00 p.m.  raffle winners drawn (approximate time... raffle will be announced and drawn after the poultry sale in the center arena ends)
3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.  Buy, Sell, Trade, Swap, Visit, Visit, Visit
4:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Clean Up!
5:00 p.m.  Wave goodbye and go home with our new chickens : )
Drop off map.jpg

The barn is labeled N.E.O.C.S. Barn on this map.  Enter from S. Cherokee Street onto 5th Street.  Follow 5th street around to the front (north side) of the barn.  Go to the END of the barn, the east end, and drop off your cages.  If you unload your cages at the west end of the barn, you'll have a long way to walk with them later.  Park your vehicle after you move your cages into the dirt floor area of the barn.  Still can't tell where the east end of the barn is?  Look for the round administration building.  Imagine the middle of this round building.  That middle point is approximately at the end (the east end) of the barn.  Aaaahhhh Haaaa!  Yes!  That's where the fancy sign will be directing you to Please Unload Your Cages Here : )

My husband's plan is to go to the movies.

We've got a demo at 10:00 and another at 10:30 that may interest him.

The concession table will be stocked and ready to serve people at 8:00.

If your Bigg-un likes BBQ, there's an excellent BBQ called My Place a the west end of town on highway 16. The concession stand does not have cake, but they will have hot dogs, chips, pop, water, tea, apples, granola bars, candy bars, and a few other snacks available.

Edited to add:  My Place caters at school some times, and what we've received has always been very good.  Sorry to hear your experience has been otherwise.  Gosh, maybe I need to look at the other two you mentioned and suggest them for the next catering day.

I'm going to post this on the planning thread, but I want to put it here too in case anyone signed up for the egg recipe contest Saturday.  Due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, we're going to cancel the egg recipe contest.  If all goes well Saturday, then we'll probably do this again next year, so there will be another opportunity for people to showcase their culinary arts achievements.

Nana, how SAD those geese lived that way?? The lady really should've known better :-(

Poco, THANK you for the awesome map! Please don't let me forget to talk to you about "neutering" for me lol It's worth a lot to me because they're my pets and it kills me to have to part with them because there's too many males. I don't hatch out very many.

Does anyone remember Molly Shannon from Saturday Night Live? She played Mary Catherine Gallager in a movie called "Superstar", Her character was hilarious, a catholic school girl. Well all through the movie she kept saying "Supa' Staaaa!!" and spreading her arms wide and throwing her head up in the air lmao!!! That's what this chick reminded me of. He was literally *born with a 3 rowed pea comb so I'm betting he's all boy.
Still only have the 5. Super healthy, fat and strong but I have no idea why the other 8 didn't hatch. That's all Carl got from the shipped I gave him to hatch, too, so maybe something about being shipped possibly causes them to die those last 3 days. I know those are the important days.

acording to what DR BRAMWELL told me  "profesor of poulty science at the UofA "  fatality in chick between day 17 and day 21 is due to the hatching methods and not the eggs themself
