You've got bold hawks, MacGuyver :-O I can't imagine them getting *that close.
HannahWren, that's the most beautiful coop! 
For the record I do size pics way down to thumbnails when replying to a post. Although it's probably been a waste of time. Anyway, as my husband says, let's "let it goooooo!"
I think I should at least get credit for not posting a picture while the babies were still in the incubator. This time at least I waited til I pulled them out. Although the white Araucana is damp. There's still 2 pipped eggs that are working their way out, I hope they make it. Another thing I was going to mention-2 of these babies (& 1 remaining pipped egg) zipped out from the small end of the egg. Hatched just fine all on their own but the wrong end.
Anyone know if the 3 dark ones blue or black? I'd be thrilled with either. I can't believe I got a white one, too.
The 2nd pic is the Brown Red and the White Bantam Ameraucana. They're so big already, look at all their wing feathers and they've even got tail feathers-at only 1 week.
Then the 4x6x6 tall frame my daughter and I (mostly her) made yesterday. I think I'll do them this way from now on. I'm going to 'side' it with 6" wide pickets and cover it with roof panels. It's heavy, it's in one of the new 50x50 yards we build around a group of trees. My 4 Dark Brahma girls and 3 Lavender Ameraucanas are going there.

so cute Mitzi!!! Love the babies!!! 

 

McGyver you just described my worst nightmare!  I have been sitting outside with the birds this week while they free range because I'm worried that very thing would happen!  I just figured they wouldn't do it with me standing right there.  I have only been letting the adults and some of the older chicks (10 weeks and older) out to free range so hopefully they aren't a temptation to neighboring hawks, lol. 

 

Christina I am green with envy over all the garden goodies!  Ours is just now putting on tomatos they are getting big and green then something comes along and eats them!  I am considering picking them green, I can always make fried green tomatos if nothing else, haha.

I hope to some day relatively soon fence our property so I can get an outside dog. I feel that would take care of a lot of the predator problems we have. Right now coyotes come right up in our yard.

This is from last year. He was walking up and down on the brooder using his beak to try to open it. I got pretty **** close before he flew away. This spring I came home and found one stalking back and forth INSIDE MY GARAGE A FEW FEET in front of the big dog crate I had my rooster in. I was driving, so didn't have my camera out to capture that episode.

Right there on top of the brooder??? We live out in the country but they're not anywhere near that bold, I hope they never get that way either.

 That is such a nightmare!  We live in the city so big birds are pretty much the only thing I have to worry about.  I sit out there and just stare at the sky while they are running around.
