I kept one remaining Self-blue, (Lavender) hen from my foundation birds just in case something happens. I moved my SQ Black roo, that I was breeding her to, out of the pen and  have 6, 10 week-old Self-blues in with her now. They are her "grandchildren". Early this morning when I gave every pen some sunflower treats the roo in each pen called his girls over to the food. The Self-blue hen started clucking to call the youngsters in her pen over to the treats. She is acting like their mom even though they were well started before they joined her.

  love.gifI love chickens, especially hens.

But the good- bought 6 eggs at NEOCS and they hatched Friday/Saturday.  Is it possible to get a wheaten maran hatch from cuckoo maran eggs?  Got one yellow and two black chicks from the cuckoo maran eggs, and 1 americauna chick hatched.  1 more still in bator, if I don't hear anything from it by Monday night I'm going to open it up and see if it developed, I don't have any way to candle besides a flashlight.

One good thing from the CL loss, contacted someone through the legbar forum here and they are going to get us about a dozen hatching eggs, guess I am hooked and getting a larger bunch!  The other crazy thing- we KNOW this person from about 10 yeras ago when he lived in Tulsa area!

Sorry to hear about your dog getting your chickens.  My dogs haven't been out alone with the chickens except once by accident but one dog just chased one of the chickens, didn't hurt her.

I wish we had an incubator, I need one that will just hold like 6 eggs, not 80.  Funny that you know the guy you are getting your eggs from!

Evening everyone. Interesting reading the past few dozen post! It sure is easy to get way behind anymore!lol We have a lot of lighting and thunder but very few rain drops. Hope it changes. Got the water bill for this past month. $109 ,its usualy $35-40! I knew it was going to be high,we did a lot of cleaning on the pool and I have watered night and morning trying to keep plants alive. Wife said to cut back to once a day but I hope it won't be nesscary at all. Had to bring rabbits inside for the last 7 days, hope thats over after tonight.

Have another hen due to hatch tomorrow. Greybear its your eggs,I'll let you know how they turn out.

Went and bought ten more roller pigeons tonight. Didn't really need them but got some good colors so now I can cull out smoe that I don't like. I break tradition and go for flashy birds, the old timers swore on only blks, reds, blues. I figure it doesn't matter as long as they perform .

We got a new dog just before the fourth,a papllion. On the forth she got loose and we couldn't catch her. We never could find a trace of her. She showed up on craigslist today 40 miles away. The people listed her as lost and found. I have emailed them twice and poster on cl but still no contact. Hopefully they haven't given her to someone else, like the people who took her!

Wow! Its pouring rain! Jsut needs to slow down and contuinue! Praise the lord! First rain in weeks!

,Roller Pigeons, Bantams, And a  place to return to in OKLAHOMA!

a few teasing rumbles of thunder, a few drops to say it tried to rain- that was it, but i like the cooler temps

guinea mama and babies are reintegrated to the flock, and she left one with the main group to roost with the aunties and uncles- then she and the other three are in the tree behind the house- had me in hysterics tonite, racing all over chasing bugs!

I don't think so, just at hatch. What are her legs doing? Are they just weak or do they stick out sideways?

i am pretty sure its a vitamin issue, so am supplimenting the feed- and she seems more alert- but i read where lack of some vitamins can cause them to lose leg control- ricketts... and since i wasn't feeding them chick feed, but the regular feed, am leaning that direction. Not worth saving pennies when these little guys are needing different feed.... he.gif  i have one little silkie/cochin that his feathers were tweaked, growing in sideways, and now his toes are curling under...

Got brave today and moved the eggmobile to the back. Right now it is sitting right above the pond on the dike and the birds have their choice of pond bank goodies on one side or pasture on the other. Man, I've never heard so many happy-chicken sounds. Keeping my fingers crossed on the pasture Pyrs. They grew up with chickens and goats, but this is the first time they have been with mine. Fortunately no rampage through the flock so far.

Doodle, enjoy that rain while you can. When you move back here to drought country it will be a rare sight. :)

But maybe you will be living in the green part of the state. Down here we are very much in a drought, still. Our pond is worse than it was last summer and is just a little mud hole. People come by and I try to tell them those docks used to have water under them. Seems like somebody just drew a line down the middle of the county and said anybody south of this line, no rain!
