I kept one remaining Self-blue, (Lavender) hen from my foundation birds just in case something happens. I moved my SQ Black roo, that I was breeding her to, out of the pen and have 6, 10 week-old Self-blues in with her now. They are her "grandchildren". Early this morning when I gave every pen some sunflower treats the roo in each pen called his girls over to the food. The Self-blue hen started clucking to call the youngsters in her pen over to the treats. She is acting like their mom even though they were well started before they joined her.
I love chickens, especially hens.
