Red infrared bulb vs white bulb heat lamp

I started with (6) 2 day old chicks white bulb and every seemed fine. After a couple days I switched to a red light and the chicks are calmer and sleep much more. With the white light they would sleep for very short amounts of time and never all sleep at the same time. After putting in the red light I will check in on them once after dark and they are all sleeping soundly.

You can get the white bulbs in 100 w or 250 w also or infrared in 250 w also. Most feel the red allow the chicks to stay calm especially the meat variety. As most have posted. Alot also has to do with the quality of your brooder and not to over crowd that helps alot with the picking and fighting between chicks.

I'm getting set up for my chicks to come next Friday and I got 2 heat lamps and bulbs from Tractor Supply. The clerk told me the red is much better for the chicks than the white. Is she right or just selling me what they had?

(40 meat chicks, 4 x 6 brooder in the greenhouse so I got two lamps and bulbs just in case)

Thanks
Eric
1 red light bulb is more than enough, it's for a 100 chicks. Keep it about 800mm or so above them. Otherwise it gets to hot.
