My silkie hen is sitting on eggs from either my Speckled Sussex roo, or my Frizzle roo. I was planning on attempting just sizzles, but had no place for my (unexpected) Sussex roo to go, end everyone is getting along in ,he same pen, so on Monday I'll have some interesting babies!

The babies are adorable. hdowden! I've got my favorite (hatchery) Silkie boy in with 2 Bantam Spangled Cornish and I also have a Splash Silkie in with a Crele OEGB boy....you guys are seriously making me want to try some eggs to see what hatches out. It hadn't occurred to me to try to hatch any of their eggs, they're just good company for each other.

I need to know what colors and what genders these chicks parents are

they gray/silver ones are pure d'uccle

the buffish colored ones their parents were a mix between a white silkie hen and a mille fleur d'uccle

my other silkie/d'uccle chicks are black and their parents are my 2 hens from the above mix and my lavender rooster

genders are still unknown at this point also colors will depend on if your white is a white dominate bird

now these are the parents to the buffs (the white silkie hen and miller fleur d'uccle offspring)

Here is a pic of my BBS silkie roo (from CJ's silkies) x EE.  I'm positive of the cross b/c he is the only roo around (no neighbors have any at all) - and it was a green egg from one of my two EEs.  I read that black skin is a dominant sex linked gene and that if the dad is a silkie and the mom not a silkie then chicks with black skin are female and chicks with gray skin are male. (and it also said that if the mom is a silkie and the dad is not, then female chicks have white/yellow skin and males will have gray skin)  Lets hope the genetics site was right !  S(he) has black skin.  Also 4 toes on one foot and 5 on the other - which is also common for a first generation cross from what the site said.  Looks like it'll be light colored (I have one buff EE and one dark brown EE - but I know they are cross breeds, so can't really tell which one is the actual mom - no matter, I don't really care, just more curiosity than anything else)  - it has little black spots that for some reason you don't see well here (the most prominant though is on it's other side) - and looks like a California white chick except for the black skin, feet and beard (that also doesn't show from this angle).

It hatched on Monday under it's adopted silkie mommie  :)  I have three more in an incubator due to hatch in about 10 days (I put them in the incubator because they were too far apart time wise - I was afraid the hen would give up on them not hatching at the same time).

I've learned to collect my eggs more often now !

Such a cuite though - wonder what the other three will look like.
