Roost bar diameter question.... - Page 2

I used a piece of 5/4 x 6 decking board ripped in half, which makes each roost approx 2 3/4" wide. The hens sit comfortably.

Since you have a breed that often gets so large, I would switch over to a 2x4 before winter, if they were mine.  When they're younger, mine often get a 2x2 for a roost.  I like a 2x4 for adults, especially in winter.

Gorgeous coop you have! I have been doing some thinking and I am going to add another 1x2 to my already exising bar, 1 side up to give it 3 inches of roosting space.  Just as a 2 x 4 would be. I will then put something underneath at the center for more support.

I took it to mean a tree branch that is neither too big, nor too small?

And, with all due respect, this post hasn't been responded to since 2011. The person you're addressing may not even be on BYC anymore...
