Duck eggs turning black? HELP! (pic)

Pics
Bruising happens when a baby pips the internal membrane before the blood is absorbed. If it happens in the pointy end, its usually a malpositioned baby trying to pip the wrong end. This kind of baby needs help hatching if noticed while it is still alive.

I just noticed one of my muscovys eggs is black on the side. It's been under a hen. They aren't due to hatch for about 4 days. Is there anything I can do??

This is a very old thread.

It is best to start a new thread when needing help.

Have you candled the egg yet? Do you hear any chirping?
No the hen wont let me. I've tried to stick my hand under her but the one I pull out isnt the one with the black coming through the shell. They are due to hatch on Tuesday and she's extremely protective. Just plain mean! Which is kinda funny cause she's normally a total sweetheart.

You should likely move her off the nest so you can get that egg.
It would be awful if it exploded and you lost all the other eggs from the bacteria.

I am wondering the same thing! I have one egg in my incubator right bow that looks nasty but with only 7 days left not sure what to do! Candled them at day 10 and they were all good. Guess I will wait and see and risk explosion 😬

One of mine just did the same and I’m so afraid it won’t hatch but I felt like I could see movement. We are on day 29 and I see/hear nothing different
