I wish, but I opted not to.  I had put her in a separate broody coop, but she would have none of it, so she's back in the main coop.  There, she's been getting back on different nests.  So, I set my swap eggs under her instead.  They were really scrambled when they arrived, so I would be impressed if even 30% of them hatched.  So, I won't be stuck with growing out too many unwanted chicks hopefully. I put a Speckled Sussex egg from my flock under her with them as well so that something will possibly hatch.  I just couldn't bear it if I came home to find out she'd been off the EO eggs since that morning.  I may put a little lid on her nest box and let her out to go to the bathroom when I get home from work as some others have suggested.  We'll see if she settles onto these eggs and starts remembering where she is sitting.

Home of the world's cutest dachshund, one crazy blue heeler, two cats,
one fat pony, and many (but not too many!) chickens

Can anyone tell me, how many are too many chickens?

Thank you. I'm really hoping that the robustness of the breed will overcome any shipping and hatching mistakes I make. Hopefully pics in 21 days :-)

What say  you?  boy or girl?  I am feeling that Hobbes is a boy.  6 1/2 weeks old.

Yup, that's a boy... my apologies to Hobbes for the miscall.  tongue.png

My girls combs weren't as big as that even at twelve weeks.

Thanks!  Hobbes is the sweetest of the group.  I am not at all disspointed.  I got 4 boys and 4 girls and they are all such good looking birds.

I am facinated by this beautiful breed! I am thinking about firing up the incubator around the end of April. Would anyone (not too far from Florida) have eggs available then? Hopefully it won't be too hot yet to ship eggs, but it's hard to tell.
Thank you for sharing your gorgeous pictures of them!

I'v had a backyard flock for about two years. I have a Leghorn, a Production Red, a Barred Rock, a French Copper Marans, an EE, two OE, an Ameraucana, Buff Brahma, and a BLRW. And two Rouen ducks and a mess of pigeons. And a partridge in a pear tree.......
