Chick With Curled Toes

Thank you very much. I bought some Poly-vi-sol at the store. I Have her a couple drops today and added some to her water. Can you give too much? I'm trying to be cautious.
I would give her 2 drops daily directly in her beak. There are some poultry vitamins such as Rooster Booster Vitamins with Lactobacillus, that you can add to the water, and they also contain a probiotic.

I know this thread is a couple of weeks old, but I just splinted my almost-4-week old Easter Egger's feet this morning. Her name is Sparrow. She didn't have curled toes until recently. Her feet looked fine in her "baby" pictures. I just noticed them yesterday. I figured I'd give it a try despite her age. She's a very easy going chick and is handling it very well so far! I'm also giving Polyvisol.

I gave the polyvisol also. I did the bandaid cast. Stuck her foot in the sticky side of the bandaid and made her toes were all spread apart properly and that her foot was nice and flat then I covered it with another bandaid on top. I did this all for about a week and a half and I changed the bandaid every 3 days because they do grow so fast. She now is a completely normal happy chicken. No more cast and no more curled toes!!

I wonder why it would be happening at 4 weeks old??

I'm not sure, but I read it can be due to fast growth. Sparrow is a really big girl. Or it could be a vitamin deficiency, or just genetic. I also added a branch with varying thicknesses for her to grab on to when the splints come off. I think it will help if she "wills" her toes into a grasping position.

That type of curled toes can be genetic. It is probably too late to correct it. Many chickens have some curling of toes, and they get along just fine.

Henspoopalot - Did you have any luck?? I just noticed today that our 4 week old EE has curled toes... I looked back and all of the photos I have of her has a baby she is covering her feet or she is perched so I can't tell when it started... I cannot believe I hadn't seen it before though...
She is the biggest of our mixed flock of 4 and also the Alpha.... and as luck would have it, the only one of my flock who is not "easy going"... I can't imagine her allowing me to try this but I am wondering if it helped at all?
Will she be ok if I don't? My girls are on medicated chick starter crumbles - should I be adding the Polyvisol for her?
Thanks in advance!!

Chickymama83 - I think it helped. I only left them on for 1 1/2 days and her toes are straighter. I plan to re-splint today. I also added a branch to the brooder for the girls to grasp on to. I thought it might help her get the toes into position.

Now that I'm looking at your chick, I wonder if they came from the same hatchery and are sisters. They look alike and have the same exact toes. Kind of weird! I'm in NH though, and bought from a feed store. They could have come from anywhere.

My other EE chick is very flightly like yours. She's white. The one above with the toes is super mellow and friendly.
