Pictures of your peacocks pens?

Lots of rain this summer = very lush greenery in the pens.

Poppie gets loose again, we had to lock him back up for fence-fighting with Fred, he had himself limping.

I am loving the grass in the pen! But how do u clean and disinfect grass in the pens? And how do u keep predators out without enclosing the bottom?

I have boards that go into the ground on the perimeter that keep predators out. The grass will hold the dirt in place. I've never had to clean nor disinfect the grass. If you water it enough the grass will absorb the nutrients and water will leech the previous nutrient so the grass doesn't fry up from too much nutrients. During the winter I never water it since the snow takes care of it for me. I flood my grass with a regular garden hose.

In 20 years I've never lost a penned Pea to a predator, knock on wood! We have wire buried along the bottom, just scraps from the construction, buried horizontally We make them go inside at dusk to roost in the barn. Let them back out in the morning. We do not clean or disinfect our grass, by the time we let the birds out on the grass they are usually around 8-12 weeks, we continue the medicated feed and use a preventative dose of corid in the water, this way they build up their immunity to Cocci, we do twice a year and PRN wormings, and they are good to go. We have gotten so much rain this year that the poo has just gotten washed into the soil as fast a they poop it out, the outside runs are 20x30' inside pens are 12x12'.

This is a breeder pen that I recently built.

Ooh I like that. That would be neat for my pheasants too! Well done!

Do you have a white male? Do their tail feathers stay white? I have a young one.

Dylansmom will not be answering your question. If you have nice green grass in your pens you can keep Whites clean. Free-ranging also keeps them fairly clean but during breeding season the cocks will make the hens into dirty girls.
