The DE they sell at Lowe's and Home Depot here is not food grade and should not be used with chickens. It is pool grade. THe Lowe's in your area may carry something different than the ones in this area. Check your bag--if it's pool grade, it's advisable not to use it on your chickens, your pets, or in your garden.

You can get it from a place called Permaguard. It's pretty affordable, I got 10lbs, can't remember how much but not too bad. I can't get anything near where I live either, it's a pain and I'm trying to stay organic which makes it even harder.

I get mine from gardeniq.com 10lb for with shipping about $25. I've called the local feed stores and either it's about $8 per lb or they don't know what I'm talking about.

sunnyvera, I live in Northeast Ohio also, and have had no luck finding DE, there is a Western Reserve near where I live, is that the same as Landmark, as it used to be called that years ago?

I just got some DE at the Madison Feed Mill on Rt 528!
