I took a few pics today of my Olive Eggers. Mathematically, these ought to be "true-breeding" at this point, but that is still pending confirmation via further test-breeding - I can't yet be 100% certain there is no hidden Wheaten or other unknowns. This is by no means the conclusion, these only represents the start of of several larger, tangential projects for which these will serve as the base point, but anyway, here we are...

Unfortunately, I had to rehome the cockerels but I still have their dad and one B2 cockerel in asylum elsewhere so it's only a setback of time and not a total bust.

Is anybody else working on Olive Egger projects?

A quick word about stewardship - note that you do not see poop all over the chicken yard here and there is only one moulted feather on the ground. Poop and old feathers are breeding grounds for bacteria/viruses and that equals disease.

Thank you, ma'am. I should mention something that makes it very easy to clean up is to spread a very thin layer of straw, very very thin, and the birds' scratching about will break it up into tiny bits which helps to rake the poo. Fall's leaves are even better but they've all been raked long ago. To just plain rake poo by itself is more difficult.

I agree. We usually dump our fall leaves (we live in oak woods, so plenty of those!) into the pens and the birds break them down. Raked out one pen completely yesterday and tilled under another. Always work around here to do. Hate smelly pens with hard ground with tons of poop sitting on top. Ick.

MM, you have some great looking hens. I really like the looks of the combination of pea comb, black feathers and feathered legs/feet. Good job.

Thanks, y'all.

skyline - I'd like to see very tight feathering like a junglefowl and all black with a violaceous sheen. The males have more violet sheen but also more copper of course. For now, I'm just stoked to have basically true-breeding Black Copper Olive Eggers - numerous projects will branch out from these.

What is a B2? And I would suggest you work on white next ( if you can). White is best built upon hypostatic black.
