'green' coop with dog run?? - Page 2

@ Nadine   yes there is ventilation the window on the side swings out to open and is directly across from the door to the outside of the coop leading into the pen area.
Yes that is the street but we live in an old really quiet neighborhood where maybe 10 - 20 cars go by..and slowly as of late.. as far as roaming free dogs none have been seen yet.. but we have a turkey vulture rookery about 250 feet away so I am ever vigilant ... the people here are really interested in the old place..the yard has sat unattended for 30 + years..so to see a coop and a garden going in has most of our neighbors attention and inquiries about eggy weggs:gig

@ Drumstick Diva   Yes There are small rocks in the holes of the concrete blocks that will someday (soon~weather dependent ) have concrete over the blocks. There is a 6 inch wire shelf that is folded under the blocks as well... and we have a 17 pound orange beast of a cat that has accepted the ladies as his wards..he patrols regularly   he has a pile of varmint corpses on our stoop.... 2 shrews and a de brained mouse.... Zombie tater needs more brains:sick

I checked with local chicken gurus at Naomi's organic farm supply:bow first about the cedar and they said pretty much the same thing Tala said about the cedar..boards ok shavings not so much

I am going to see if the tour de coop here in Portland Oregon will put our 'green coop ' on the route??.. its not a cobb wall or anything that 'green'

now the question is  how do I get a dust bath for the ladies..my thoughts are to get an old sink and sink it into the ground and add sand and volcano dust..I am open to suggestions....  right now the ladies would end up with a mud bath..
