Nipple vs. cup waterers and auto fill

I'm sure there are some here but you may need to start a new thread with a more fitting title to get the attention of those folks.

If you go to any rv store they will sell a pressure reducer which just attaches to a garden hose. Some are adjustable and may get you close to the pressure you're looking for. Good luck

Here's the auto rabbit waterer I made recently.. I'll be posting my chicken, except instead of using tubing I'll use 1in PVC
400

How does this work for You? With is above the feeder, doesn't the pellets get wet and how does the rabbit reach it the high?

I use the nipples connected to PVC on a couple different gravity feeders that I've made, and the chickens use them. But yesterday while I was out doing some cleaning in the run, even though the chickens were drinking, they all looked really beat down by the heat, so my wife just filled a bowl with water an put it in the coop, and they all ran to it and drank like crazy. So I'm going to buy some cups and set up another PVC gravity feed system with those.

I put 2 cup waterers in a 2 gal thermos for my backyard flock (just turn the push-dispenser around backwards n drill holes on either side (you need a thermos that has a flat part on either side of the push dispenser). It works BEAUTIFULLY for a small operation n what I really love is that it's still cool water in the Az heat!!!

I have a water dish, and also the nipples on a pvc pipe in my run, the girls don't seem to know yet to use the nipples. They are still only 6 weeks old, will they learn to use the nipples, do I need to take away the dish first?

If the nipples drip, they run to it. Then loose interest and walk away, they don't even try to peck it...

Mine are always empty. When the want a drink they go poke around and water comes out and they drink it. There is never more that a very small amount in the bottom of the cup. I have had mine up for over a year now. zero problems.
Blueskat,
My hens poop is runny and the only recent change I've made is switching from three normal pale to cups. I've dipped their beeks, filled the cups, sat and tapped the dongle for the last week. Any suggestions? I know you said it will not stay full and each day there is a little bit of dirt in the cups. I am hoping that is a sign that there using them.
Thanks for any and all help.

I have a major headache after spending hours researching watering systems for my new family of 10 Faverolle hens. They are now 5 weeks old and I have to solve the watering problem - they make a mess of the waterer I have. I want to use a 5 gallon bucket which I will put on a platform in the corner of the coop (pretty high up) - I would then use pvc pipe to attach either nipples or cups - I cannot figure out which would work best! Also - is there a way I can attach the bucket to the water outlet so I can automatically fill the bucket by just turning on the water valve? I don't want to have to continually hand fill the bucket. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Also - I'm wondering if this might not be a good system for my 2 mini pigs???? Talk about a mess with a waterer!

Thanks in advance,

I’ve had market hogs and pot bellied pigs for years. The best watering system is a vertical 4” pvc pipe about 3 or 4’ long/high with a cap on the bottom and a cap on top to keep out debris and a pig nipple about 2” from the bottom. They love them so I’m sure the minis would love the same sort of design.
