Broody bantams on goose eggs!--we have GOSLINGS!!!

This has got to be the cutest thing I've seen yet on this site. Chiquita and her "baby" are just too sweet for words.

What a GREAT picture of that gosling peeking out from under Chiquita's wing.

That should be fun, I wish you success! You know that the goose egg takes about a week longer to hatch than the chicken eggs, did you set them on the same day? If so, then the hen will want to leave the nest when the chicks are a day old, she probably won't want to go back to the goose egg. You can take the chicken eggs out now and incubate them artificially or take the chicks out when they hatch and brood them yourself, leaving the hen to set & care for the gosling.

I've had a hen set both chicken & duck eggs, but I added the chicken eggs after she'd been setting on the duck eggs for 7 days. They all hatched on the same day & it was fun to see both kinds of babies with this hen.

I was given only one goose egg and since I didn't want to be raised alone ,I added the chicken eggs a week later ,so they'll be hatched together

.
My only fear was if she is able to turn the egg since she is at the size of an oegb maybe a little bigger, but I saw her to do it when I went to take the photo.

That should be one interesting family once they all hatch! I wish you & your hen great success!

Right now I have 4 hens setting on a total of 13 goose eggs. There is a Light Sussex on 6, a Speckled Sussex on 4, a bantam on 2, and a tiny Dutch Bantam on 1. I pray they all will hatch!

/bump!
I was wondering if a chicken would sit the longer time a goose egg requires...looks like the answer is yes :)
Now, to find some Shetland or other small goose eggs...
