SEVIN DUST for mites

Pics
Sevin is not labeled for use in poultry in the USA (still used in Canada). I don't use it because I have found that permethrin works better. Permethrin is also labeled for use in poultry.

Nice clarification- Thank you! So wonderful to be around knowledgeable people again!

I would get some permethrin 10% spray or the dust to use on lice or mites. I had a container of Sevin the other day, and I treated my sick hen who had lice. I pulled a gob of dried droppings off her vent area, and laid it on a board. I watched lice craw all around the dried droppings even after I dusted the little pile. I seriously think they have become resistant to Sevin. Sevin is not recommended for poultry nowadays, and permethrin is safe to use.

I want to say “eww” but you know we have all seen worse. I have treated with Eprinex.

Then what does DE do? It's a preventative right? So it should help in the long run not to have them return?

I am no pro on DE but I did read that it is fossilized sea like shells from the prehistoric times (unearthed)..... It works by cutting into the various criters skin/shell/coating/suit of armor and the flea, mite, tick... bleeds do death or is more exposed to other elements which its outer layer is suppose to protect it from.

Yes that’s my understanding too. I use it but I no longer add it to the dust bath. I do put a little in their food.

What my father used when I was growing up and I still use is just take a Mason jar, poke some holes in the lid with a nail. Place a piece of panty hose over the jar then screw the lid back on.
