No matter how many times I swear I won't stop stalking my girls every move so that they will lay, I can't help it.

Me TOO!  It's gotten out of control over here.  I'm following Pebbles every move (because I'm certain she's going to be the first) and I'll say to her; "When ya gonna start laying huh?"

I'm  w a i t i n g!  I'm sure my anticipation over her first egg is going to delay the big day, just cause I won't leave her alone, but come on...even the Rooster is showing her how to do it.  I just think it's so sweet to see him give a "laying lesson"!  yippiechickie.gif

Having an Icelandic in the coop is like having a 2 year old in the house - they are into everything and don't follow the rules.

I have zero chicken willpower.

The first pic is of my only hen that seems mature. She is loud and I believe doing the squat! I opened up the nest boxes last night and put in straw and plastic eggs and also put out an oyster shells dish. I have been keeping an eye on her for a few days now and found this thread last night and it just got me even more anxious lol. All 3 of my RIR's came home from TSC March 5th, my 3 Barred Rocks are April 4th births if I recall correctly. I'm hoping for my first egg within the next 2 weeks fl.gif...if I have to wait any longer, I might go insane barnie.gif

Truer advice has never been given!  It worked for me last year :P

And Farmettehopeful, I think you'll be getting that egg you're waiting for in that two weeks :)

Thanks for the encouraging words Pele!! My husband deploys next month so I want to be able to show him that all of the money and work that was put into the coop and run wasn't for nothing big_smile.png

Darn it! My little girl Nutella, a wheaten maran, just got fowl pox :( :( :( I'm guessing that will slow down the wait for her first egg? Poor girl :(

I have five hens and two pullets- one seven year old red star, Luna, one white leghorn, Sage, one SLW, Pepper, one adorable fluffy EE, Bedazzle, and one black star, Buckbeak. My two pullets are Nutella, my wheaten marans, thirty five weeks, (who is yet to lay an egg!), and her best friend, Sammy, seventeen weeks.

Lol Krysta! Thankfully (sort of) I am the only one that takes care of the ladies so I am certain to be the first to find but I plan on letting our 4 old year "find" our first, first.

Wow, I need to read up on chickens more...never heard of fowl pox!

Pele: Thank you for your kind thoughts and you are welcome~from all of us!

So, I just found out I was a little off on the math and my Cinnamon Queens are actually 15 weeks, not 13.  Boy, that just made my wait that much more unbearable knowing I am so close! The ladies' combs and wattles are getting bigger and reddening.  I have waited sooo long for eggs. One year to be exact.  These are going to be the best eggs ever.  Go girls go!  Just curious, when did your CQ's/ red sex links of any kind start to lay?

3 Welsummers, 8 Cinnamon Queens, 2 Easter Eggers, 1 barred rock, 1 Blue Wheaten Ameraucana, 1 leghorn/ameraucana cross, 2 RIR and 7 EE/OE chicklets, 6 rabbits, 1 mischievous housecat, one Catahoula bulldog, and one amazing husband to share it all with!  Just call me coop queen!

Life is good here on the Funny Farm ^_^
