I don't know why I do this to myself, but I'm checking the nest boxes for pullet eggs already. I know I still have a little wait. My April 9th chicks from MPC are 17 weeks old on Monday. They'll be 20 weeks on the 27th of this month. I have 2 golden comets/RSLs. 1 has red face and comb, the other's is still pale so it'll be a while yet.
However, my welsummer has had a red face and comb since the same time as the other RSL. I heard the wellies are later to lay, but she seems to be maturing faster than my other RSL. I wonder if she will still lay around 30 weeks? This welsummer hen is SO CALM. She is a joy to have around. 2 of my EE hens are flightier than my brown leghorns were at ths age.
the EE roo is pretty sweet, and very funny to watch.
I am also in love with the coloring on my DL Barnevelder. She is a little skittish and shy, and has a limp. I think she was injured during shipping, and has always had a bit of a limp, and walks like a model crossing one leg in front of the other when she walks. With her "fancy dress" on, it looks like she's walking the cat walk.
she runs well, and she doesn't get picked on, so I hope she does ok as she gets older.
Anyway, I'm checking my nest boxes way earlier than I should be for pullet eggs.Edited by off-grid hen - 8/2/12 at 6:39am
