First Egg Countdown

400

I don't think they are squatting. I've read about that and I don't have a rooster to test for me. Haha. Their combs are bright hot pinky. And once a couple weeks ago they sang. I work from home and will know when they start. It was a hoot. I got excited but they haven't again.

Wow, that's a beautiful hen!
Her comb and wattles look fully developed and red, which is a sign that she will lay pretty soon. She looks healthy, you're doing a great job.

I decided to join in on this thread because we are first time chicken owners and impatiently awaiting first eggs!!

We have 4 gals that we got in the first week of April. At that time we were told they were about 3 months old, so by now they should be right around 20 weeks. According to the woman who bred them, we have 2 Ameraucanas, 1 Black Star and 1 Black Austrolorp. I will try to add pictures later, but the ladies are pretty camera shy....

My oldest are about 19 weeks. Wattles and combs are fully developed on 3 pullets with the other two not far behind. No squatting or eggs yet :barnie

Here are our girls! The Wellie in the middle is 18 weeks and the other girls (Easter Eggers) are all 17 weeks. Just started noticing reddened combs and wattles. Not sure if they are also squatting or just getting low to the ground to avoid being petted. LOL
The wait is torture!

Yay!!! So happy for you and your first!
Who laid it and where'd ya find it?

Thanks! I have no idea who it was, and I'm pretty sure the egg was from Tuesday.

Had two more eggs Wednesday afternoon and then my australorp gave us a rubber egg right in front of me.

I don't know how many are laying, but pretty sure at least two or three have started at the same time.

3 eggs in the coop but only 1 in a nest box. The rubber egg was out in the yard while I was tossing out an afternoon snack. Poor little thing almost looked scared lol.
