Inexpensive fairy picnic party ideas?

For my daughter's fifth birthday, we're planning on having a fairy picnic party. We're on a budget, so I'd like to make what I can. I am planning on setting quilts out on the grass for the kids to sit, and we have some pop-up tents to block some of the hot California sun. We'll probably make some tissue paper flowers and paper butterflies to hang from the patio overhang. I'd love to hear any ideas on games, fairy-ish food, decorations, etc.

Do a search on how to make fairy wings for the kids. I made a pair for my daughter one year (well, butterfly wings) and they were pretty easy and cheap. I remember using pantyhose and wire hangers, then we decorated them with sequins and glitter. Maybe make them ahead of time then have the kids each decorate a pair? Tinkerbell is pretty popular, the dollar stores around here usually have fairy stuff. For Easter, my sister in law (who is really into tinkerbell) made "fairy houses" with her nieces. I think they built little tee pees with sticks and decorated them with flowers.
 
Bubble blower machines are always cool (about $20 @ target) . Also, are you going to have the kids come dressed up? How about face painting with some inexpensive lip glosses and glittery makeup. Wand decorating.

Have fun, I would love to throw a fairy party someday, but alas, I have 3 boys (and they are all boy).
 
In Australia at all the kids parties the moms made sprinkle bread...basically buttered bread with cake sprinkles on it

I like the wand decorating idea! maybe a matching tiara made with silver pipe cleaners? or glued on silver paper and cheap rhrinestones. We have a dollar party supply store near us and they have such wonderful cheap stuff...really cheap. I bought my daughter and I "new years eve" tiaras for $2 each.
Also lots of crepe paper streamers on the pop up tents.

The last time I was in the cake section of Hobby Lobby or Michaels they had cute paper things to decorate cupcakes with. They were maybe $5 for a package.

Most craft stores have lots of really fun beads cheap. Make fairy necklaces or bracelets with the beads. You can make fairy snow globes by using round bottomed water bottles (or any other small bottle), adding beads, glitter and water. I think five-year-old girls would love those.

I like the bubble idea too. Bubble jars make nice party favors too.

Mini sandwiches, cupcakes and drinks would be nice too. I think some blinking white Christmas lights in shrubbery would add a fairy atmosphere.

Glitter and Sparkles!!

Little hand-held bubbleblowers for all the kids. They even have ones with colored bubble solution now.

Cake sprinkle sandwiches, sprinkle cookies, Shirley Temples to drink (Sprite, grenadine, and cherries). Sugar makes sparkles more fun!

You could paint their nails with sparkly polishes and add rhinestones or other decorations..... I like the playing with make-up idea too - face glitter!

They could come as they are with their parents supplying the basics for their outfits, and spend the day Fairy-izing the outfits, then have a tea party and bubble blowing!
