a couple of months ago i bought 3 peacocks, and i've been feeding them chicken scratch and leyena (which is also for chickens) on a daily basis. i mix it like 30% scratch and 70% leyena (somehow they like the scratch more than the leyena!!! they pick it from the bowl of food and leave most of the leyena there!!!). now and then i feed them a little bit of dog food just as a treat, also some watermelon, or any other fruit that is too ripe, like bananas, apples etc...

i want to know if im feeding them the right food, or if i should buy game bird food? i read they need 30% protein on their diet, so im trying to figure out how to give it to them...

anybody has suggestions?

I'd like to know, too.

I mix scratch and BOSS for xtra protein pretty much the same I feed my chickens. They both do fine. Couple treats, sometimes eggs I don't want, and lettuce/cabbage. Sometimes I even pick some clover that grows near and feed it to them.

Ours get a mixture of gamebird pellets, rolled oats and corn, and small breed dry dog food. Fed them that for years, with no problems. They also get small amounts of greens and shell grit. And mainly bread and bananas as treats.

I feed mine 12.5% Gamebird chow, then I mix in some chicken scratch and then some cat food all in one bowl and they seem to like it. I also give them bread, watermelon, ceral, grapes, peaches and whatever else I have on hand!
