With partridge its a good accurate thought that to get SOP girls and boys you need two lines

the black chest of the 'Standard' Male in the partridge tends to make a blacker hen where the SOP calls for a chestnut (reddish brown) body and head - but when you breed for the good hens you tend to lose the black chests in the males and come up with more redder/ginger males. It just seems to be a balancing act.

He is a blue/porcelain silkie.  I was told to get an SOP partridge hen to make blue partridge.  Do you know if that's right/wrong?  If that's right, I can't figure out what an SOP partridge hen looks like...there's so much partridge out there.

Do you mind me asking how you know he is a he...Just so I can keep an eye out.

Also would be good to bread with my 2 white silkies?

2 x Isa Browns (Nugget & Parma), 1 x White Sussex (Kiev), 2 x Australorps (Apricot & Butter) 3 x Silkies (Honey, Lemon and Satay) 2 x dogs (Sasha & Hal), 4 x fish & 1 x Canary (Carlos)!

His/Her name is Satay and is 14 weeks old.

I don't suggest mixing colors, but if you just want pets for yourself - nothing wrong with it. :)

I say he is a he because the comb is large and very prominent but the ginger partridge colored birds - that darker red like he has especially on the neck and wings is a definite boy coloring. I have a young cockerel (5 months old) that looks exactly like him almost. Also the shape of his crest is slicked back, and his overall look just screams boy to me.

I keep my Silkies as pets. I mix the colors on the theory "what will I get?"Last year a partridge roo on 2 Splash hens  The 2 hens hatched out 17 chicks! Chicks grow up to be   blue partridges, partridges, blacks, blues, whites, buffs, buffs with blue crests, reds........it was fun.  I sold them and moved to town. But with a garden shed I am back at it. I have young Silkies all full bearded...3-5 months old  a white roo and a blue roo, the pullets are 2 gray, a partridge, a buff and 2 blues. By fall I should have rainbow colors again,,,,,,,,saving back the most interesting ones.

Did you take any pics of the babies before you sold them?  I'm wondering because I only have my partridge boy and three partridge girls and I have two splash girls and two black girls.  I have put the eggs in the incubator from the splash girls just because I am trying to figure out how to incubate before I buy hatching eggs.  I didn't get any to hatch out and this new batch I set I didn't include any of those because I was too worried about the funky colors I would get.  Would love to know what yours looked like.

My silkie roo has the same coloring as yours and someone on here told me it is not partridge but red. Mine is most certainly a roo though if you wanna look at him. photo(5).JPG
