Partridge Silkies - Nothing else - Page 277

Can I add a partidge showgirl silkie?   Vegas is only four/five weeks old and still feathering out the crest (breeder couldn't remember exact date of hatch since there were a couple that month :)  Any guesses on whether Vegas is a boy or a girl?  Love this guy/gal --- so homely its adorable.  Came from BBS pen - someone is throwing the occasional partridge which is why I got him/her.

hi guys,

Satay is now about 18 weeks old. Do you think male or female?

Hi! Can I ask a question? Is my little boy "Ginny" (I know, he needs a new name) a partridge?? Here he is now, at almost 4 months old:

Satay is definitely a cockerel.  (Hope that is what you want.)  Hard to say for sure whether Ginny will develop more partridge markings or not.  At the moment he mostly looks like a leaky black, but I do see what looks like it may be additional hints of colour.  He is still pretty young.

Can I please ask how you know he is a he? I have had so many conflicting responses...I'm just not sure either way.

I'm hoping he is a he because I would love to breed him with my white silkies.

I haven't heard as much as a crow yet nor have any of them laid any eggs.

Purple - typical roo crest - slicked back and what appear to be streamers already showing up

Green are the redder rust areas that you typically see in a boy, the wing bows, hackles, and saddle area - especially in a ginger (redder male lacking the dark chest)

Also the comb is very male

at 18 weeks that young for a silkie, I have a 6 month old cockerel who has yet to crow or act boyish.  I have heard of people not having hens who lay until they are a year old, and roos who don't crow or start being manly till they are a year old. So I am not at all surprised he hasn't crowed or acted too boyish yet.
