Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

JUST FOR FUN (not a partridge project breeder)

Just sharing some photos of my silkie/silkie mix chicks that are partridge-ish for fun as babies and some as adults at the end.

One of these is a blue cream (lavender base), but the cream/gold is maybe still partridge. (See the first picture, 3rd picture, and last picture for the one I think is “lavender partridge”)

There was also one that started out mostly black and then ended up growing into something somewhat partridge-like. (Second and 3rd to last)

The rest are blue and black bases on lighter chick down.

I produced these out of my silkie and part silkie hens, and the roosters that are the fathers are a full silkie and half silkie. (I have a quarter silkie roo, too, but he’s lowest in the packing order and I don’t think he’s the father.) Some of the chicks had silkied feathers that I sold, and I’ll share the pictures the chicks’ new owners sent me, as well, so you can see them as older pullers/cockerels (disclaimer - they are blurry).

Some are hard feathered and some you can barely see the silkie in them. Most of the ones from my full silkie hen look almost full silkie and lean toward silkie feathered even if they’re from the half silkie roo.

I think the half silkie roo is birchen, but he has patterning/lacing too and seems to produce partridge chicks.

A lot of them have chick down that looks like they’ll be mottled or spangled but then they grow into partridge looking birds. I do have one bird from one of the clutches (not pictured here) who is black with mottling FYI on an unrelated note. I think she’s just a carrier though.

And I will post photos as they develop. Both my hens and 2 of my Roos are split to lavender. I want another lavender one because I gave that one away.

I wanted to add a couple photos that shocked me. These came out of my silkie mixes. I guess that rooster especially got all the non-silkie genes from his parents!! He looks like a game bird. He’s AT LEAST 1/4 silkie from a lineage perspective (likely a lot more), but he didn’t present any phenotypic traits. And he’s crele (that’s a partridge gene plus barring, right?)

None of these are from my silkie hen. They’re all from my part silkie hen. She got some from my silkie hen, too, that are silkie feathered that I asked for pictures of next.

Had to post this pic of our molting Silver Partridge "Suzu" watching us play the WINGSPAN bird game.

@Hinotori -- As much as I love full-bearded Silkies we just HAD to take this little cutie who doesn't look like she'll be bearded -- she photo bombs all my pictures which tickles us cuz our adult Silkies run away as soon as they see the camera! She's the oldest of 3 Silkie chicks but she doesn't bully. She just LOVES to eat and she cracks me up when she comes running to check out what's in my hand! I love her almost Moorhead-look to her crest.

KEIKO -- our photo bomber -- teehee!

Some people prefer clean face instead of bearded. The clean faced ones can see better usually.

Really loving this new Partridge Silkie chick to pieces! And she gets prettier every day -- not just her appearance -- her personality plus is just what we wanted 💖!!!

KEIKO -- DNA-sexed Non-bearded Moorhead Partridge brought home Jan 16, 2024 with a bearded Blue chick and a bearded Black chick. Breeder apologized for giving us the non-bearded Partridge but Keiko turned out such a funny outgoing people-friendly chick that we kept her! How FAST these babies grew!

Keiko as a non-bearded Moorhead is so much deeper in color from our lighter-colored bearded Blue/Gold Partridge hen who also happens to never stays still:

@my spoiled chickens -- Please post pics when/if you hatch. I love all the color variations of Silkies but we chose to stay away from White, Splash, Paint for aesthetics. White-ish colors turned dingy or yellowed from muddy days or dust-bathing. At first I only wanted Partridges cuz we figured the dirt wouldn't show -- our first two Silkies were Partridge. But one chick turned out a cockerel and had to give him away. We wanted to replace him w/ another female Partridge from a breeder who had Black pullets also and we fell in love with a calm Black pullet and she toodled around with our Partridge pullet -- but the Black died of a bleeding ovarian tumor at 6 yrs old :(

We were left again with our original lone Partridge Silkie so we added another Blue/Gold Partridge chick and a Silver Partridge.

One old Dominique hen and 3 adult Silkies -- sadly our original Blue/Gold Partridge passed at 11 yrs old.

Currently we have 3 new Silkies who are still too young to introduce to the outdoor flock yet:
