now one of my black cochin hens has a watery eye in the same eye that the vaccine was put into.

Is this a normal side effect of the vaccine or something I should be worried about? There are no other symptoms/ailments that I notice.

Should add that this vaccine was a requirement of the Dept of Agriculture in the area that we live and they administered the vaccine.

I'm afraid I don't have an answer as I've never used it, but you can call the makers # and they will patch you over to their lab that can answer any questions about the vaccine and problems that may arise.
 
Ok, I am copying straight from the Schering-Plough fowl laryngotracheitis vaccine package insert: " An eye reaction may be noticed if birds are incubating Coryza or other infectious microorganisms, or if there is excess ammonia or dust in the air in housing facilities." So, yes the eye reaction is probably normal. Hopefully, it is just a bit dusty in your coop. I would contact the veterinarian and ask to be sure. Good luck!

If the bird has active mycoplasma it will also cause an eye reaction. I have noticed it does cause a mild reaction in the eye.

As with all live virus vaccines, a mild transitory reaction may occur in a small portion of the flock, and with LT-IVAX this is generally limited to a mild, localized eye reaction of short duration.

Which vaccine did you use? It is most important that we as hobbyists only use the Schering Plough LT-IVAX, all the rest will spread bird to bird.​

Not sure what vaccine they used. I never thought to ask as this was not an optional vaccine. My daughter has these cochins to show for 4H and a requirement of the Provincial Agriculture Department is that this vaccine (an 30 day quarantine) is manditory.

Her eye looked a little better this morning. Hopefully it was just a delayed mild reaction. Coop is not overly dusty, but with the rain we have had lately, they aren't being let out as much.​
