WHAT YA GOT SWAP Chat Thread

A few years ago, we did a swap where we swapped items other than eggs.  If I remember correctly eggs were also allowed so it was a good way for members that were starting out with chickens to participate in a swap if they didn't have eggs to swap.

Items offered were things such as home made soaps, fabric, books, home made jellies & jam, plant starts, nuts, home made candies, etc. and of course hatching eggs.  It worked just like to egg swaps with one item offered and then claimed and an item offered by the person who claimed.

One of the problems with the swap was that we had a "few" people who got over their heads in offers and then could not afford the postage cost thus they got their items and never sent items promised.    To perhaps keep that problem down we could limit the number of swaps allowed per member to a couple per week.

This is just to see if we have any interest in doing another swap like this.  Please post if you would like to give it a try and suggestions that could make it work better.

I thought this was a great idea and sent out my promised items and never got mine sad  And they never answered my PMs asking about it.  And I had my husband all excited about it too!  LOL  He was so bummed!  So I will sit out on this one but watching is fun big_smile

Have had chickens for a whole six years now!  This year decided to try out ducks too!  WOW messy they are but totally worth it, their cuteness overpowers all the messes they can make :D

Yes, it is a bummer to not get your item.  I too was one that did get my items.  I don't know how to prevent that from happening.  I do know that some members took offer after offer then when the cost of the postage for sending the items started to add up they stopped answering PM's and didn't send their items.   Some people never intended to send the items in the first place and I don't know how to weed those out either.   The only way I know to is to somehow limit the exposure by only allowing so many swaps per week.    It still all comes down to the honor system.

I  have this lovely bed of Irises that I got bulbs from two people on the swap and it reminded me of the swap.  I also have some really nice cookbooks from the swap.

I just wanted to see if we have enough interest to try it again.

Sounds like fun:) Too bad you couldn't give people a rating system like amazon or ebay as then you know if they are liked or not by other people who have delt with them. Then you could see wheither or not they were ok to deal with or not.

Sounds like fun to me. Its too hot to send eggs for me so I would like to participate I have a home business of making t-shirts and could offer some one of a kind chicken shirts to trade.

sounds like good idea to me!

Rouen ducks and Marans.  Hatching eggs want list Sebbies eggs, bearded Silkie eggs, and call duck eggs. Can trade BBS Marans, Wheaten marans, black copper Marans and Rouen duck eggs. PM what you have to trade even if not on my want list probably can work something out.
