The last scan was Monday at 7pm where they came from in PA and the next scan was in Muncie Indiana at 2am Thursday morning.
I really don't want to tell the postmaster, we live in a small town and I am already the crazy chicken lady, lol.
Can you just see me explaining the missing chicks and the bird seed in the box. I really didn't want to even tell dh. When I did tell him in the car he just rolled eyes and said "well at least you got them"
I knew you all would be more support. I DID double check with the breeder what she sent.
One time dh saw a dead chick in the brooder and tossed thinking he would save me having to know. Mean while I am counting chicks and checking my notes, I finally asked dh he was shocked I noticed. Of course I noticed I hatched them all, I know how many there are suppose to be in there. tongue.png
This happened before I was missing a few chicks on some hatchery layers. That box was on time if I remember right. It's those lilttle brown shipping boxes both sides the lids were bent up like someone had been peaking in.
I am expecting some other chicks later this month or next month I asked the shipper if they could put the chick box inside one of those bigger horizon boxes and zip tie it like how the big birds ship.
Great now I am the paranoid crazy chicken lady. wink.png

My two cents (for what it's worth)... NO ONE, I repeat NO ONE should be opening your box!!!!  Sounds to me like someone liked what they saw and took it.  I would report it immediately and file a claim. Get your $ back from the PO which will enable you to repurchase what was lost. Prime example of just one of the many things wrong with our postal system, I believe they have some of the "stickiest" fingers of any agency. rant.gif   From PA to IN should not have taken that long no how, somebody seriously dropped the ball and should be told about that.  Along with filing your claim (with the claims dept. online or you may not get your $$ back)  I would also file a complaint with your local state "consumer affairs" dept. and yes you have a CA dept. many don't even know about them as they are not customer service. I would have them back track the shipment and find out where and when that box was opened!! wink.png   Sorry for your loss and my heart goes out to those poor babies.

I was the crazy rat lady for awhile befor I became dangersouly allergic. I worked at Mc Donalds one time and I had to call into work 3 days because one of my rats was sick. I knew they would probly not only think but say pretty horrible things about me but he had to be hand fed water and food he couldnt even hold his head up and I was not gonna let him die because of a simple ear infection that cuased him crazy virtigo. Some times you have to do what is right even if its hard . I ended up standing in line for concessions at the movie theater months later listening to one employee tell another one about this crazy person that woudnt go to work cuase her pet rat was sick gig.gif.. I waited in line and when it was my turn I orders and as I was getting ready to take my stuff I said , well of course I did he was one of my favorits and he needed me ..

Im still so sorry for your loss this must be not only sad but frustrateing for you.

Oh that is toooo funny that she noticed!  Wait I think I have something else for her.....let me go look.  Yup I do.  I will get it Yup, I found it. LOL  25 years worth of Army stuff, it's crazy.

They only issued these to E7 and above. Of course I retired as a First Sergeant E8 so I needed two  hehehehehe   This one has never been used.  I put the Giovanni velcro name tag on there so you could see what goes there.  When your daughter get her velcro name tags made she can put one there.  She can also go online and order them if she wants it sooner from this site.  Good prices.   The E7 rank is a pin rank so she can remove it and put E3.  I don't know if she can take it to Basic Training but she will have to keep it in her 1 personal drawer.   Oh I also have a brand new pair of WileyX Army sun glasses on my swap page.  She will love them.  Here is the info on them:  http://www.wileyx.com/EcommSuite/ProductDetail.aspx?ActivityCode=TACTICAL&SeriesCode=175&ProductLine=201,SG1V&ItemCode=70

You can win my swap !   Oh and thank you for the decorated eggs I got this morning in perfect condition!  And the necklace is darling. What a great idea!!!!   I am going to wear it today shopping.  Thank you so much hugs.gif

Yes, please try to quit smoking, but it really has to come from inside, so I'm no help. :)

Pauletta--Nicolle loved the bear!!! She had to fix the pants because they were over the boots instead of tucked in. LOL!!!! She went to a shooting range with her uncle and cousin who is in the military and shot 4 different guns. She was stoked. :)

Oh no on Fox and friends they have a pink flamingo chick. It's sooooo cute it's white and it's legs are 2x as long as it's body.
Anyone have any flamingo eggs.

DOWN!

But, actually the box being opened and people putting in what they could get at a store does to me suggest someone trying to save those chicks.  It doesn't seem paranoid, it seems logical. You here peeping, it sounds weak,  your stuck, you open it to give them water, you see 3 dead chicks....

Its not something that they a re supposed to do, but it is something someone with a heart might do anyway if there was a problem with the shipment. And if they watered them, it might be why you got any chicks at all!

Sorry you lost your babies, anyway. But I bet the postmaster would understand.  But you might get someone fired, so id go online:D. Becuse I'm a softie and I like to think they saved your chicks, not stole them.

Short version there was no tracking info after they left PA Monday until they showed Thursday morning.
1 auburn java
1 creole red paetridge
2 silkies
Are missing
The box was opened and had bird seed with sunflower seeds in. No put in by the shipper.

Glad they showed up even with some missing.  I think maybe someone put them somewhere for safe keeping  then forgot they put them aside.  Maybe when someone found them or that person remembered them, they knew the chicks were in bad shape and did give food and water and perhaps removed the ones that didn't make it.  I don't know how old they were but three days without food or water for anything older than days olds would have certainly done some in and maybe all of them if someone would not have opened the box and given food and water.  If that is what happened, it would have been nice for that someone to put a note in the box.  Of course with the rules, they may have lost their job for opening the mail.  Very sorry for the loss.  Someone did drop the ball nevertheless and it should be reported to the postmaster.

I am in tears. hit.gif

I just want to say Thank you! You guys know who you are. I got the box today. There are alot of smiles rolling around in this house after seeing this box. The post Office girl hand delivered it. She was concerned b/c the name was marked out, lol.

I count myself one lucky chickie to have friends such as you guys on this board! I love you guys so much. love.gifbow.gif

Between these and the ones Pauletta sent me, I will have the big incubator full. The kids are setting up a spot to help unwrap them. Shelby (the youngest) is trying to talk everyone into naming the eggs.roll.png

I found this also funny b/c DH showed up with a Generator and two back up batteries for the big incubator this morning. He said he will never loose another egg to Vol Electric or Mother Nature's Broom sweeps....lol

Patty, my Dearest Cashew. I love you hugs.gif!

Took me over an hour to catch up on this thread - I was camping with family and friends for a week.  Used the lake daily and only a little sunburned.

*Got my package from anderson.  I wasn't expecting all those extras big_smile.png  You are a sweetie!

We lost my best Polish hen when we were gone.  I think it was a crop issue....

My yard needs mowing, garden weeding, clothes need washing, house needs cleaning, camper needs cleaning, chicken pens need cleaning, more basement stuff needs to be gone through from after the flooding, and the list goes on and on.   We've all been there or are there.  Thats the price of having a little fun

Hope all the allergies, fleas, predators and poor postal deliveries are taken care of.  I really feel for those of you who are dealing with these.  hugs.gif
