WHAT YA GOT SWAP Chat Thread - Page 886

Hi swappers frow.gif  things are getting picked up around here.  Trees are gone from the driveway and the wood pile is huge.  Roof and garage door back on barn.  Brought home my 2wk olds today - I swear they have grown a bunch in 3 days.  The little Polish is so hilariously funky looking with the crest coming in I just lover her.

I made a big mistake on dates this week, thought my eggs were supposed to hatch yesterday (Friday) but it is really today, so add 24 hours that electric was out and tomorrow is hatch day.  I snuck one Polish out and candled, it is pipped internally and breathing celebrate.gif

Beth - I have a question for you or anyone else that can answer.  I hatched 3 EE pullets from you out of green eggs about 6 months ago.  Will they lay a green egg without a doubt or could they be brown?

I have 4 or more new pullets laying and I'm unsure who it is (too busy to check the coop as much as normal).  I have the EEs and 3 Brown Leghorns (white eggs) who are old enough but the eggs are creamy brown.  The lady I bought my Buckeyes from said hers laid eggs at 4 1/2 months ~ I thought she was exaggerating ~ but these eggs sure look like Buckeye eggs and they are 4 1/2 -almost 5 months old th.gifIf it is the Buckeyes WOW I love them more than before!  And they start laying a couple of days after taking a wild ride in the coop flipping over!

Good to hear things are looking up.  I love hearing about the chicks hatching. I am going to get an incubator tomorrow or Monday. I just have to decide if I want to pay the extra for the turner or just the plain one. Then I will be looking for eggs. I brought home 5  8 week old chicks yesterday.  I got 2 RIR   2 blue red wyandotte  and a yellow thing LOL

1st off......glad to hear you are getting things cleaned up and straighten out.

2nd...   woot.gif  on some chicks to hatch !!!!!

AND........   Yes EEs could lay cream egg, but all mine lay blueish/green and rooster is an EE also, so they should all lay blue/green eggs. ....how old are the EEs ?   They won't lay until 6-8 months old.  There are many breeds that lay 20-25 weeks.  yippiechickie.gif   Go Buckeyes....Go Buckeyes       LOL

anderson- got the pokemon and neopet cards today. my daughter loves them.

she went to her room (which is a huge mess) and managed to pull out some neopet cards that she has and then made 2 decks and we played a game.

I lost LOL.  but she had fun.

The height depends on the size of the chicks. I usually start at the lowest setting, unless the chicks are very large (like some of my BR). You want it high enough the chicks can easily get under it (head bowed down), but low enough to keep them warm when they are laying down. It is fine if they touch the surface going in and out. My week olds still have it on the lowest setting. You can raise it up as they grow and it gets more difficult for them to get under.

Cute set-up!

Chicks will drink if you show them how several times. Touch their beaks to the tip so the water comes out and they'll catch on pretty quick. I use bottles with my babies. Waterers are too messy and too big.

You're a good mom to play Neopets with your daughter. I won't play any of those card games. Seems like no one knows the rules! idunno.gif

Great setup Meepit....  I use water bottles also, just tap it a few times, once one starts the others join in.  Then they enjoy tap tap tapping away.  LOL
