Congrats on the 3rd grandbaby. It's always hard, never gets any easier but they will find a way just like we did when we had our kids. I always shake my head when I think my Grandmother had 9 children and my Mom had 3 girls. But big famlies are nice. We were never rich.......far from it!!!!!! But there was always rabbit, squirrels, deat meat, fish and a whole lot of love. And I bet your an awesome Grandma.

The kids and grandkids live in town, so no hunting going on there. DS works in a pizza place so I guess they must eat a lot of that.
I have always been an animal nut, raised hamsters for grocery money in college. At one point I started a chain of pet shops, we had stores in two provinces in Canada. I have always kept lots of pets. I raised lots of budgies, canaries, finches and cockatiels back then. Used to show dogs in confirmation and obedience. It was fun and interesting.
Right now I am working on cutting back chickens, I just can't afford these feed bills.

I planted some feed corn, and I picked an ear today with horribly misshapen kernels. It was like frankencorn. What are they putting in it? Any ideas?

It has been a drought year so it probably wasn't pollinated properly. Do you have a picture? My sweet corn had a good bit of missing kernels on some ears this year.

I did take a pic, but have to get on the computer to post it. I found out today that the corn was all warped out of shape because of a fungal infection . Never heard of that before, so I learned something today.

it is raining today, which is good for the earth, but not great for getting work done outside. Last weekend I sold 21 chickens at the Scotts Hill sale, so that is good. I have four empty coops now. I did manage to sell some eggs as well thanks to my byc friends so I can go get feed today.

OH! was it corn smut? That stuff is hard to find and considered a delicacy in some places.

I am not sure what it is,but it is awfully ugly.
We took a short vacation to Gatlinburg , very enjoyable except the aquarium was very crowded. Only a couple of days away but a welcome break.
Going to the auction to sell off more chickens. Sold 21 last time.

Hot2Pot wanted to let you know the Buff Orps have been laying for about a month now and the fertility rate has been 100% Which is crazy amazing. They are sooooo large and lovely. Thank you so much. I am going to place an order for some speckled sussex eggs on Wednesday. I just love your chickens. Hope all is well.
