With several comments about finding it hard to obtain good quality Brabanters, has anyone purchased from Sandhill? Where have you found good quality stock? If our town changes it's regs, this is...
-
I like everything about it except how it looks right now. I know it lays decently. It is a great part of my great waterfowl flock.
-
First, watching a runner duck run is awesome. They can find their own food. They aren't like pekins in water. Mine haven't started laying but I heard their decent.
-
Its not as fat and slow as a pekin, but its not frail either. I want a mallard but I don't want a flying bird. The rouen is great for that.
-
They are my calmest birds and are easiest to catch. They eat less than Pekins. I heard they also lay well, but mine are younger.

I drove up to springfield mo, two hours away,Sunday to pick up some blrs from the foley line.I traded 2 dozen german new hampshires eggs for some chicks and a dozen of their eggs.Nice lady, but i think i talked her leg off about chickens.Today the state guys came out and we blood tested the chickens all of them and the geese. The guys helped catch some of them ,but i did most of the work.Boy i was huffing and puffing.I have 81 adults as i found out today. They don't test birds under 4 mo. old Thank god !! I did get the post up for coop number 2.It's going to be 8x16.Now all i need is coop number 3 4 5 6 .

Well an unbelievable amount of work got done this weekend around here! My stamina is getting better after that stupid heart Cath...My leg is healed well (cath) and I dont have to worry so much if I pick up something, that I will bleed out, here in the country (nearest heart hospital is 50 miles away). We completed the Ameraucana coop, completed the Maran coop, and the Laying flock coop. Now just need to paint them ALL...Ugh...Then we cleaneed out all the brooders all five of them....and discontinued (until further notice) one of them...which just so happens to also be one of our horse troughs...The horses get it back after oxine! We moved all the babies UP a level....or pen actually.
We got a dump truck FULL of sand and put it where the new site for the brooder shed , silkie house and the bantam houses are to be constructed...(let me add, I got on my handy-dandy ever so old, international tractor and spead said sand, with said tractor! NO power steering) start on that, will be this coming weekend...at least that is the plan. We moved an entire fence line in our pasture...makes the pasture smaller and our lawn bigger...AND now we don't have to walk AROUND to get to the pool...I LOVE IT! won't hurt the horses either because they still have the two acres next door we recently started using! Got the barn all cleaned up from winter crud and rains...and put shavings in all the stalls...made several rounds of the pasture to pick up deadfall and we cleaned off an entire fence that just LOVEs to get crowded with poison ivy every year! We dismantled, cleaned and oxined, then resanded and put new shavings in the maran rooster pen...also did this same proceedure in the laying coop,Maran coop, and AM coop. We mowed everything in the compound including the pastures! We finally bought more trash cans to use as bins for feed,I bought YET another feeder today for the babies of hot2pots they are eating so much and slinging it, so I need to DEbabyrize it so they will stop...Deb found one of the adorable little buff partridge one of two...has cross beak...I tried to trim just a little...poor baby that just never ends well....it sure didn't for us last time....ALL the other babies are doing great...think we are way over a 100 chicks right now...put more in the incy today I need for the feed store so that whole bator is sold...the other set we put in lockdown this morning...it is sold too!.. two ladies are waiting on chicks.and laying hens...or juvies! yay!! GO US!

Wow, good for you I wish I had gotten that much done! Yesterday I was trying to clean the garage, and when I bumped one of the tools, the Axe jumped off the wall and hit me in the chest!!!! Luckily, I had two jackets on and a heavy shirt, so while it did break the skin, I didn't need to sew myself back up. Today I pitched two wagon loads of litter out of the grow out pen. Still more to go but I got the Mule stuck down the gulch where I was dumping so it took me a while to get it out. By then it was time to feed. I did move the frame with the nipple bucket for the other grow out pen , and set it up. Now if the chickens can figure it out.... Painted the frame for the creep feeder. Packed and shipped four boxes of eggs, two more to go out tomorrow. Sold three dozen eating eggs today. I think I will sell my SLW hens, I am tired of looking for a rooster, and they are eating a lot. Then I could move some other breed into that coop, and empty out one of the pens in the barn.
Went to the dentist and got my teeth cleaned. I need a new crown, got a cavity under the old one. It is always something.
This weekend is the sale again, I hope to sell a lot of chickens. I am spending way too much on feed. The last of my quail will go to the sale as well. We are supposed to have rain for three days after tomorrow, up to three inches of rain. Not looking forward to that.

I'm hoping for a nice sunny day tomorrow. THe snow has stayed longer than it is welcomed. THe cold days following the snow keep the snow covering my supply piles so I cannot work on the breeding pens. So that's why I'm hoping tomorrow will be a good day to get things done in the afternoon.
The youngest twin lambs are doing well. Only drinking about half the milk so mom must be in full swing now. Need to dock a few tails.
My hands were getting painfully chapped and as I can't function as well I opted to where gloves while wahing the dishes and doing chores. And, no , not the same gloves. LOL What a difference.
Good luck at the sale--hope you unload a few birds!

Today I went to two places with chicks, and didn't buy ANY! TSC had some cute chipmunk marked ones, but didn't know what they were. Typical. I did buy a bunch more feed. I found two really sweet dresses for my granddaughter. My back was giving me grief again, I just wanted to get back home and take a pill. Laid on a heat pack for a while and was able to get feeding done. Packing eggs tonight to ship tomorrow. Bunny looks like she might kid tonight, must go check her again.
