Ok to feed beef liver?

Glad to see this because I just tossed a left over liver slice out to out girls.

I'm the only one in the house that likes liver, and, last year, when we bought a cow (100% local free range organic and the best meat I've ever tasted!) of course, it came with the liver. My partner generally does all the cooking and so I had kind of forgotten about all that liver. A few days ago I dug one of the pint containers out of the deep freeze and cooked it up for my dinner, and lunch, and just today lunch again... LOL.

And then the dogs had a bit, and the cats too. But there was still a bit left. Maybe the size of a deck of cards? So, without even thinking, I tossed it to the chickies.

They stared at it for a bit, then decided it was not going to attack them, therefor it was safe to try eating it.

And the frenzy began!

There's twelve of them, all eleven weeks old, and they had that bit of liver GONE inside three minutes. It was only then that I thought Oh SNAP! That might not have been the brightest idea I've ever had..... so I checked here. Glad to know I didn't screw up my chickies.

Iron is not too bad in beef liver (one ounce only has 1.4 mg). There is a lot of copper though, at least in CAFO and organic beef liver, but probably not in grass fed. The high copper is a consequence of feeding grains to the animal. It will have a lot of other goodies, including B12.

So Organic grassfed is probably ok. Thank you! We have lots of liver this will be a great way to get rid of it.
