Charlotte County Florida ordinances

Pics
Hi we live in Charlotte County & would love to have 2 or 3 hens if it's allowed. Were in South Gulf Cove. There is absolutely no one directly beside, behind, or in front of us. There are homes on our street though. A couple of years ago as a project we hatched them but then after a couple of weeks we gave them back to the women who we paid to do this. FYI I informed her that we would have to do this & she was okay with it. We are have deed restrictions. However with that being said in my opinion it seems not to be heavily enforced. Please post if any of you have any information/documentation on supporting us having hens. Thank you

**EXCITING NEWS for CHARLOTTE COUNTY RESIDENTS**

I was just following up here since there has not been any recent posts regarding chicken keeping in Charlotte County, FL. Many Charlotte County residents have been under the impression chickens have been allowed all this time in residential areas...well, actually they were never prohibited OR permitted (only permitted under 4H exception). I had chickens for over a year before I realized they were not allowed. Before I could re-home my young silkie rooster (supposed to be a pullet lol), I received a code violation complaint for the crowing. I thought all was well and told Mr. Code Complaint Officer I have re-homed my rooster so we are all good! Well, this was when it was brought to my attention "keeping of pets" as stated in the RSF zoning code did not include chickens. Charlotte County's definition of a domestic animal included poultry, in the same line as a dog and cat. But, that was not good enough to resolve my violation. So, I quickly realized what I needed to do. The reality of it was, I was not going to get rid of my chickens and code compliance was not going to go away, so I decided to formulate a group to fight for the rights of chicken keepers in Charlotte County! I wanted to be sure nobody else would have to go through what I was going through....

My name is Melissa Aniskewicz and I am the founder of CharlotteCLUCK "Citizens Lobbying for Urban Chicken Keeping". I am pleased to announce there will be an official ordinance next month to legalized chickens in Charlotte County!! We have been working hard over the last year to fight for our rights to own hens and have a specific ordinance to ALLOW us to keep our hens.

I have attached the proposed ordinance being presented to the BCC. The highlighted areas will be addressed to the board regarding the requirement for the rear yard to be fully fenced in which contradicts section (e).

The BCC is requiring a Backyard Chicken Training Class. GOOD NEWS! It's free and easy to do online!
