Pinks Spray (for afro american hair) has long been a staple for hard feathered birds. Spray them with it, then buff to a shine with a silk cloth. Yes, I said silk. You can also use glycerin in hte final rinse, although for hard feathered birds, I have seen some literally rub it onto their feathers.

Pinks does not work well for silkies--it rather unfluffs them by weighting their feathers down. You can put a little glycerin in the rinse water, or use a lighter weight shine spray.

White vinegar is about as good as you can get for removing stains. If you colour the bird as is sometimes done on horses, it is considered faking. Any of the whitening shampoos can turn a white bird purple or blue. Trust me on that one.

Try to shampoo them a week beforehand, and spot clean as needed from then until the show. Make sure to clean dropping from the shavings frequently, especially on featherfooted birds.

I'd recommend body or a light weight vegetable oil over vaseline or neosporin or any greasy substance.

Trim nails and beaks. Take lots of photos and have fun! (Taking an extra chair or two is always a good idea.)
