Olandsk Dwarf Chickens

Hi Everyone! I have a batch of eggs hatching next Monday. A friend asked me for some Olandsks since mine were so cute and calm. I have 8 fertile eggs and he only wanted 3, so I will have 5 chicks up for grabs (candled and swimming strongly in their eggs). I was just going to toss the extra 5 Thursday night, but thought I would offer the hatch to anyone interested. I won't charge anything for the precious babes, you'd just have to pay for their shipping, or if you're in the Los Angeles/Orange County area, or not :) but willing to drive (I drove to San Diego to get my pair). My phone is down, I am using a super old cell phone, but below are pictures of Talia (hen) and Ivy (roo, of course we thought he was a girl when we got him as a chick, and of course he ended up a roo, but we couldn't part with him, he's so handsome and lovely).
How often do you hatch?

This is my first, and I didn't plan to. He mentioned he wanted to raise chickens, and since mine was laying eggs, I offered him some of mine, if they hatch. As soon as her clutch of eggs got large enough, she hunkered down. And to my pleasant surprise, the eggs are doing swimmingly. If you're interested, I'm more than happy to send you any. I will be destroying any extra eggs tomorrow.

Eggs hatching on Mother's Day, how appropriate :D. 3 Eggs hatched already when we took a peak and cleared the shells from under her, here's some sneaks!

7 Healthy chicks all running amuck and happy as can be. One last egg (she laid one last egg a day after setting, so either this one is a dud, or it's that last egg she laid) to hatch. And Talia's still determinedly sitting on it, so there's still some hope it's a good egg. Here are some cute pictures of all of them :)!

Aw! They are so cute! Congrats!!

Thank you! :) 8 healthy chicks :) Talia and the other chicks was picking on #8 when it hatched yesterday evening, so we removed it, let it fluff out and get some energy before sneaking him back under her yesterday. So far, so good. Monitoring the interactions closely :)

I am so excited to see the Olandsk Dwarf being bred. Cute little buggers. Like most bantams they're probably good little broodies too. I'm at capacity for having chickens but these little guys had been on my drool list for a couple years. I understand they (like most bantams except Silkies and maybe bantam Cochins) are excellent flyers and in my small yard would be so afraid the little guys would fly right over our fence. I free range my Silkies and Ameraucana and don't keep any of them confined so having the OD's confined to keep them in the yard would be unfair to the little free spirits. Keep up the wonderful good work in perpetuating this rare little breed. It takes special people to raise the rare breeds - my hat's off to you!
