The girls go out in their play pen from about 7am till 7pm.
The come back in at night for now. I won't have the big coop
up for about 6 weeks at which time they will go out for good.

I don't know at what age I'll be able to mix the new chicks
with these two.

The guy did it for his college thesis, should be out this summer. I think the name is "Skin and bones".

He is supposed to mail Vera a copy of it when it is done.

I came home for lunch and found the new run partially framed out.  After school and PT and stopping at Donna's house to pick up the chick feed, I came home to a completely framed out run.  It just needs two cross pieces on top and then we'll attach the hardware mesh all around.  UNBELIEVABLE!!  It looks just the way I envisioned it.  I'll post a picture tomorrow.ep.gif

And I have to say, Donna has the most beautiful chicken paradise in her yard.  Her house is fantastic - so much style and warmth.  I have house envy, big time!

I met the famed Mrs. Cuddlesworth and was treated to the sight of her leading the chicks up the gangway to the coop for the first time.  She is a great mom - patiently showed them how to walk up the ramp a few times until they got it.

Big thanks Donna, not only for ordering the feed but for the guided tour of your own little slice of heaven.

And we figured out that Gladys must be flying over the picket fence (3ft. high).  We're going to try adding a foot or so of chicken wire at the top to keep her in.  I knew that one would be trouble, right from the start.somad.gif

2 weeks to the Lav Orp hatch.  jumpy.gif

I need to find a way to thank Bobby for all the work he's done.  Any suggestions?  (Keep it clean, folks.)

You can see the cedar panels that will enclose the whole coop eventually.  We did this side first so we could get the run up.  The plywood piece is where the pop door will be.

I had a whole post written and forgot to hit submit! UGH! Well, it went something along the lines of this…

Thanks Suzanne for the compliments, we love the place we have chosen to call home. It's been a labor of love for the past 3.5 years.

So glad you got to see Mrs. C at her best. So cute when she came down the plank and looked right into their faces as if she was trying to really talk to her chicks.

Your coop is looking fantastic, can you send Bobby over here when he's done? LOL!

I talked to a woman today who is in publishing and she loved my illustrations but not the story. She thought it was too long and kind of disconnected I guess. So it's back to trying to rewrite the book. UGH! Here is the cover in case I haven't showed it yet. I can't remember anymore!book_cover.jpg

I ended up clipping my EE flight feathers on one wing because she can fly like 5 ft up and keeps getting out of the brooder to fly on my fish tank. I was worried that when I let them free range shed be over the 4' fence and I'd lose her. She can still leap up about 2' but if she try's to fly she goes in circles lol. She was so MAD last night cause she can't escape. She was making so much noise. Prolly chicken cursing.

I was planning on buying my big coop cause my brother the plumber has been busy building a new bathroom for my parents. Today he says I'm crazy to spend that much money so he's gonna build me one. Woohoo! He doesn't seem happy about it, but he can't stand the thought of me "wasting so much money". It's gonna be 4' x 8' and he has an extra window in his shed I can use. I'm so happy. He is never going to have to buy eggs again!

Suzanne I LOVE your coop. I'm gonna show my brother the pics of it so he gets an idea of what a coop looks like. I told him just build me a big water proof shed lol.

Donna , I like that book cover, I would buy the book after just seeing the cover big_smile.png
